The vegetation of the Back Rhino Private Game Reserve is predominantly sweetveld which is complimented by the sourveld and mixed veld of this South African game park. Buffalo can be seen on regular occasions as they have taken shelter in the more remote areas of this game reserve. The Black Rhino Game Reserve in the Pilanesberg is characterized by a large number of Tambotie trees and therefore regular sightings of the Black rhino occur.

The malaria free Black Rhino Game Reserve is home to the ‘Big Five’ which include lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, as well as the white and black rhino. It is also home to the cheetah and the rare wild dog. Antelope species which can be seen in the Back Rhino Game Reserve, Pilanesberg, include sable, tsessebe, eland, gemsbok and springbok. With a species list of over 354, the Back Rhino Game Reserve is a true bird watchers’ paradise.

Pilanesberg’s Black Rhino Game Lodge is situated 33 km way from the Sun City Resort ( Palace Hotel of the Lost City, Cascades Hotel, Cabanas Hotel, Sun City Hotel) and 150 km from Johannesburg, Gauteng.

Airports:

By air, the Black Rhino Game Lodge is accessible from the nearby Pilanesberg Airport or from the OR Tambo Johannesburg International Airport.

The directions by road to the Black Rhino Game Lodge are as follows:

Travel along the N4 and take the R510 right to the Sun City Resort, North West Province. From the gate of Sun City continue travelling in the direction of Rustenburg for approximately 4kms on the R565. At the stop street, turn right and travel approximately 30kms on the Madikwe road where you will find the entrance of Black Rhino Game Reserve on your right hand side. It is a tar road all the way to the entrance.

The Black Rhino Game Lodge is set within a beautiful Tamboti forest, overlooking a busy waterhole, which is a hive of bird and animal activity, and a well liked playground for elephants.

The Black Rhino Private Game Reserve forms part of the Greater Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa’s North West Province near the Madikwe Game Reserve and the border to Botswana. The size of the Black Rhino game park is in the extent of 57 000 hectares. Black Rhino Reserve is situated in the north western region of the Pilanesberg National Park. It is just under 2000 hectares in size and is the first portion of private land that was incorporated into South Africa’s Pilanesberg National Park.

It is the mission to incorporate the region between the Pilanesberg National Park and the Madikwe Game Reserve to form the "Heritage Park" that will be in the extent of 300 000 hectares.
