Elephant Back Safaris at the Riverbend Game Lodge

Walk with Africa’s gentle giants through the diverse valley bushveld of the Zuurberg Mountains, ravine and forest habitat unique to this part of the Eastern Cape. The informative walk-and-talk of the Addo Elephant Back Safaris takes a very leisurely pace set by the elephants themselves. Guests interact with, feed and observe the elephants in their natural habitat while trained and qualified handlers share their specialized knowledge and insight of both the elephants and our unique eco-system.

This is proving to be a very popular activity amongst our guests. After the walk, guests are offered the exhilarating experience of riding these magnificent animals – revel in the natural beauty of the environs and its wildlife from your lofty seat as these giants amble through the African bush. At the conclusion of the ride, you can enjoy a close-up view of the elephants swimming and frolicking in their favoured waterhole from the viewing deck at the boma – no guarantee that you won’t get sprayed with a trunkful of water though! The recently opened restaurant serves light lunches while guests overlook the elephants splashing about at the waterhole.

Bookings and rate enquiries can be made through reservations. They will collect guests from the lodge for either a morning or afternoon activity. An incredible experience for young and old!
