Guided Nature walks

Early birds can take a guided nature walk into the veld to appreciate the splendour of indigenous Karoo succulents and fynbos or catch up on their bird watching.

Helipad

The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge has a helipad on site offering guests the opportunity of flying along the Garden Route.

Open-Air Bar

Guests are welcome to make themselves at home with a refreshing cocktail at the lodges open-air bar or choose a suitable spot on the deck nearby. Look out over the dam to the towering Swartberg Mountains in the background.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop, located in the reception area is a reflection of the best local arts and crafts from the area and provides the tourist with an interesting selection. Beautiful, stylish leather products and a varied range of clothing is also available.

Lookout Lounge

Enjoy the spectacular views on offer at Buffelsdrift from the elevated vantage point of the Lookout Lounge. With its lovely big fireplace for those cold winter nights. Also equipped with a plasma television for those sport enthusiasts.

Residents Only Swimming Pool

To keep guests from disturbing the Hippos and other wildlife, no swimming is allowed in the dam. Instead, residents may relax and cool off around the swimming pool situated between the accommodation units for your convenience.

Directions to the Buffelsdrift Game Lodge

Option one: Route via the N2 (approximately 4 hours 30 minutes or 470 km) Cape Town, Somerset West, Caledon, Riviersonderend, Swellendam, Heidelberg, Riversdale, Albertinia, Mosselbay, Hartenbos, Eight Bells, Oudtshoorn At Hartenbos you turn off the N2 onto the R328, go over Robinson Pass to Oudtshoorn. You will enter Oudtshoorn in Voortrekker Street. Turn left at the third traffic light into Baron Van Reede Street. Travel with this road out of Oudtshoorn towards the Cango Caves. Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is situated only 7km out of Oudtshoorn on the righthand side.

Option 2: Route via N1 and Route 62 (approximately 4 hours 30 minutes or 460 km) Cape Town, Paarl, Worcester, Robertson, Ashton, Montagu, Barrydale,Ladismith, Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn. You will enter Oudtshoorn in Voortrekker Street. Turn left at the third traffic light into Baron van Reede Street. Travel with this road out of Oudtshoorn towards the Cango Caves. Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is situated only 7km outside of Oudtshoorn on your right hand side.

The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is a game farm situated in the fertile Cango Valley at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains which is South Africa's 6th World Heritage Site. Lush succulent Karoo vegetation and a 5 ha natural waterhole create a haven for a variety of game species including elephants, rhino and Cape buffalo, giraffe, hippo, Cape Mountain zebra, Eland, Kudu and Springbok. Enthusiastic bird watcher's will enjoy trying to identify the more than 217 bird species to be found in the area, the ostrich of course being the easiest.

Located 7 km outside of Oudtshoorn, the Buffelsdrift Lodge is in the heart of ostrich country, half-an-hour's drive from the Swartberg Mountain Nature Reserve and the isolated valley of Gamkaskloof ("Die Hell"). The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge lies just off the famous Route 62 and is part of the scenic circle route: Oudtshoorn - the Swartberg Mountain Pass - via the historic village of Prince Albert - through the spectacular Meiringspoort gorge which you exit just before the quaint village of De Rust, after which you return to Oudtshoorn.

Professional guides escort guests on early morning or late afternoon game drives in open game viewing vehicles. Refreshing sundowners are served on the lookout deck next to the open-air bar, which mark the end of a perfect day with the sun setting over the mountains.

The lodge's swimming pool is set in between the tents and is only accessible for guests staying at the Buffelsdrift Game Lodge.

On arrival at the Buffelsdrift Game Lodge, guests are met by a guide at the car park to collect their luggage and direct them to the reception. While guests sit and relax with a welcome drink in the lookout lounge, their luggage will be taken to their tent.

Accommodation at the Buffelsdift Game Lodge

The Buffelsdrift Lodge in Oudtshoorn offers accommodation in luxury en-suite tents which feature air conditioning. Like the conference venue, the restaurant and the wedding chapel, the accommodation is located on the edge of the waterhole and offers breathtaking views of the Klein Karoo.

The accommodation at the Lodge comprises of 25 tented units. Each has its own wooden deck where guests can relax, admire the view and observe the game. There are two different types of room at the Buffelsdrift Game Lodge available to guests: Superior or Luxury accommodation.

Superior Accommodation (9 tented suites)

The superior tented suites are situated on the waters edge with a wooden sundeck overlooking the dam. En-suite bathrooms with a private outdoor shower with hot & cold water are available. These tents are equipped with a dual air-conditioning unit to cool guests on those hot summer Karoo days and warm on those chilly winter days. Also provided in the superior tents are tea/coffee facilities, digital safe, mini bar, hairdryer and telephone.

Luxury Accommodation (16 tented suites)

The luxury tented suites at the Buffelsdrift Lodge in Oudtshoorn are situated just a few metres away from the waters edge from where beautiful mountain and dam views can be enjoyed. Fully en-suite bathrooms with a private outdoor shower with hot & cold water are a feature. These tents are equipped with a dual air-conditioning unit to cool you on those hot summer Karoo days & warmth on those chilly winter days. Also provided: tea/coffee facilities, digital safe, mini bar, hairdryer and telephone.

Dining at the Buffelsdrift Lodge, Oudtshoorn

The Buffelsdrift Restaurant offers an à la carte or buffet menu which specializes in local Karoo cuisine such as homemade preserves, chutney, pickles. Fresh produce and herbs from this region as well as a variety of freshly baked oven bread are offered. The selected wine list is a true representation of excellent South African wine and offers guests some of the best award-winning wines on the R62 which is the longest wine route in South Africa.

Activities at Buffelsdrift

The Buffelsdrift Game Lodge offers a wide variety of activities which the guests can enjoy:

Bush Safari

Guests can participate in the exciting bush safari, which is conducted in an open game vehicle to a panoramic lookout point where refreshments will be enjoyed while enjoying the natural beauty of the surrounding area. The duration for this bush safari at Buffelsdrift is approximately 2 hours.

Elephant Walk Safaris

Visitors can join the 3 baby elephants for a early morning or late afternoon walk around the Lodge's waterhole and watch the sun set on the horizon.

Elephant Feeding Experience

The Elephant feeding experience offers an opportunity to interact and feed Buffeldrift's elephants. One will get to know these gentle giants by name and their meanings from close up, feel the texture of their skin, scratch behind their ears and sit on an elephant's knee.

Relaxing under starry Karoo skies

Great weather all year round and plenty of sunshine promise spectacular views and great outdoor living. In the Klein Karoo the full moon is more beautiful and the stars much brighter than anywhere else.

Horseback Safaris

Game viewing on horseback is also an option for guests at Buffelsdrift. Guests are escorted by a guide to get a closer view of game roaming the vast undulating hills.
