| ADDO ELEPHANT PARK / EASTERN CAPE |
 |
 |
Camp Figtree is a remote, private lodge set on top of the stunning Zuurberg mountain range in The Eastern Cape, South Africa. Resting between a conservancy and the Addo Elephant National Park, the camp boasts the most breathtaking 270-degree views to be found in this South African region.
Camp Figtree has been designed around its original 1920's traditional colonial building style. Historically, this includes the distinctive use of corrugated iron roofing and wide, sweeping verandas which provide areas for relaxed sociability. The lounge and dining room are intoxicatingly evocative of the romantic colonial era.
At Camp Figtree, the luxury suites offer guests the unique opportunity to experience the gracious style of old world elegance, exclusivity and privacy. Each bedroom, with bathroom en-suite, is individually decorated with its own veranda and private views. In addition a separate luxury tented camp has recently been constructed.
International guests will find comfort in knowing the entire region is malaria free. Evenings are spent in traditional African style around a unique "boma" with the sounds of the crackling fire and night noises drifting up from the lush valley below.
At Camp Figtree the stars of the Southern skies can be clearly seen in all their awesome beauty. The building blocks were created long before our planet and its home star, the Sun, came into existence.
Looking up from the mountain range where Camp FigTree is situated, one can see the Milky Way stretching from one end of the sky to the other in an almost unparalleled clarity.
Once the Greater Addo National Park is complete a continual terrestrial area of over 200km in length will stretch from the bay of Algoa inland over the existing park up onto the Zuurberg Mountain Range with its afro-mountain valleys and fynbos ridges, beyond to the semi - arid region of the karoo. The area will comprise of over 350 000 ha of terrestrial park and over 80 000 ha of marine zone making it possible to see in one day to see elephants and whales in the same park. The big five park will ultimately support over 2500 elephants.
