Horseback Safaris:
Take part in a fun horse back ride and enjoy the landscape of Gondwana Caņon Park on horseback.

Canyon Drive:
This exciting drive is especially suitable for guests who want a break from the wheel or those on a fly-in safari. Travellers are taken to the two major lookout points along the Fish River Canyon. The guide informs guests about the canyon's fascinating geology. Approx. 3 hours

Flying over the Fish River Canyon:
Flying over the canyon in a Cessna 182 is an unforgettable experience. It also provides you with unique themes for high-angle shots. 30 minutes (minimum 2 pax) / 60 minutes (minimum 2 pax)

Sundowner Drive in Gondwana Caņon Park:
Starting at Caņon Lodge, Caņon Village or Caņon Roadhouse, this three-hour drive is the perfect opportunity for travellers to acquaint themselves with the fascinating Gondwana Caņon Park. Travellers will learn useful and fascinating facts about the geology and the adaptability of flora and fauna in Gondwana Caņon Park. This tour does not include the Fish River Canyon. Approx. 3 hours.

Everyone is invited to wrap up the day with a short excursion to our very own 'local' mountain where we have a drink and watch the sun go down.

Fish River Canyon:
Its dimensions are enormous: 160 km long, up to 27 km wide and 500 m deep. The Fish River Canyon is seen as the largest canyon in Africa and second largest canyon on earth - after the Grand Canyon in the US. Just as impressive is the period of time during which it was formed: 350 million years ago a fault with a width of 20 km appeared and the river meandered through it in wide loops. When the ancient continent of Gondwana disintegrated 120 million years ago, the Fish River started to dig deep into the ground and create its system of gorges.

Visitors looking for accommodation in the Gondwana Canon Park in Namibia have the choice amongst the following: The Canon Lodge, the Canon Village and the Canon Roadhouse.

The Caņon Lodge

The Canon Lodge is located in the Gondwana Caņon Park, which is situated only 20 km from the Fish River Canyon in Namibia. The 25 en-suite chalets are thatched and built from natural stone. Nestled against massive granite boulders, guests can experience the close feeling to nature. Visitors are invited to sit back and relax at the restaurant and take a closer look at the carefully arranged decoration from the pioneering days of farming. For exploring, the Gondwana Canon Park is accessible by horse, four-wheel drive or simply with walking sticks. Guests have the chance to to unwind with a book on the terrace, which is shaded by trees or at the swimming pool. Seeing the winding gorges of the canyon from the air, from a Cessna, could well be the highlight of your holiday.

The Caņon Village

The Caņon Village is set on the C 37, approximately 20 km from the Canyon's main lookout point in Namibia. Situated just 20 km from the famous Fish River Canyon, Caņon Village hugs the foot of a sweeping rock face in Gondwana Caņon Park. With its Cape-Dutch cottages and thatched restaurant this little village is the ideal starting point for exploring the canyon. The daily life of the regions's early inhabitants, the Bondelswart-Nama, can be seen on murals in the restaurant and chalets. Guests can participate in excursions on horseback, drives and walks in the Gondwana Caņon Park or simply enjoy a break at the swimming pool.

The Caņon Roadhouse

The Canon Roadhouse is situated on the C 37, 20 km from the Canyon's main lookout point. If thirsty, hungry or exhausted, the Canon Roadhouse provides for a relaxing stopover. Located just 14 km from the main gate to Fish River Canyon National Park, the Caņon Roadhouse offers 9 en-suite rooms, an ā-la-carte restaurant, a bar, a large swimming pool, a petrol station and an information centre.

Gondwana Caņon Park in Namibia

The Nama Karoo is characterized by its yellow flowers of quiver trees which are set against the blue sky at the second largest canyon in the world. The quiver tree is a typical stem succulent of the Nama Karoo, and on the vast plains of Gondwana Caņon Park several clusters can be found. With an area of 1,120 kmē and the first tract of land acquired in 1995, this park is the largest and oldest nature reserve of the Gondwana Desert Collection. Vistors to this area of Namibia can watch springbok, gemsbok, hartebeest, ostrich and mountain zebras.

Activities in the Gondwana Caņon Park, Namibia

All activities which are available to guests start from the Caņon Lodge or Caņon Village unless indicated otherwise. Guests of all the accommodation establishments in the Gondwana Caņon Park are welcome to participate. Activities can only be booked on site and are subject to availability.

Sunrise Walk:
The guests are driven to a location with a grand view to watch the sunrise while enjoying coffee and tea. The group will then walk the short distance to the lodge. Approx. 1 hour

Morning Hike:
This hike (about 6 km) takes travellers right into the Gondwana Caņon Park. A guide who will gladly share his knowledge about the fascinating desert landscape around the canyon accompanies guests. Approx. 3 hours

Trail from the Village to the Lodge:
A hiking trail takes guests from the Caņon Village up to a mountain plateau with a breathtaking view of the vast plains adjacent to the canyon. At 'Archway Rock' one starts to make their way back into the plain and to the lodge. (2 - 3 hours)
