Guests are treated to snacks and a welcome drink at the Main Gate boma and are then transferred directly to the Lodge. Sundowners and snacks are served on the evening game drives. The game rangers usually choose magnificent spots such as atop a mountain ridge where one can stand and stare at the majestic beauty and enjoy a fine South African chardonnay. Hot beverages and snacks will keep one warm on the early morning drives.

Bush walks and hiking excursions are offered with fully qualified rangers. These vary with the weather and the desires of the guests. Along with some of the larger animals guests may well see some of the "Little Five" - Elephant Shrew, Leopard Tortoise, Rhino Beetle, Buffalo Weaver and Ant Lion.

Children Policy at Mhondoro Game Lodge

Please take note of the following children's policy
at the Mhondoro Game Lodge:

 •  Parents are kindly asked to sit with their children
    during transfers to / from the Lodge, and on
    game drives
 •  Children of 8 years and older, can accompany
    parents on the morning and evening game
    drives, provided they adhere to the rangers
    instructions. Should they not adhere to the
    rangers instructions, safety on the drive may be
    compromised, and the drive will be concluded.
    The child / children will not be permitted on
    future drives.
 •  No children under the age of 8 years are
    permitted on the game drives. Whilst parents are
    on the morning game drive, the children will be
    entertained by the lodge staff, who will do fun
    'wild Africa' activities.
 •  In the event that the entire lodge is booked by a
    family or they are the only guests booked, all the
    children will be permitted to accompany the
    family on the game drives. However, the rangers
    cannot go to dangerous sightings with very
    young children, and this will be discussed with
    the family by the rangers.
 •  The above policy is not to inconvenience
    families, but to ensure that the guests safety and
    enjoyment are not compromised. Please note that
    the Lodge is not surrounded by an electric
    fence, and has high decks with no children
    safety rails.

The Welgevonden Game Reserve is situated a 3 hour drive away from Johannesburg or 1 hour flight from Lanseria Airport. This Big Five Game Reserve is locacted in South Africa's Limpopo Province.

Cool refreshments await the guests arrival at the Welgevonden main gate where they will transfer with the open game vehicle to the game lodge.

Welgevonden Private Game Reserve consists of 42 000 hectares of unspoiled African bushveld ranging from rocky outcrops where the leopards watch from their hidden crevices to wide open savannah where the herds of Zebra, Wildebeest and Impala abound.

The Welgevonden Game Reserve is divided by the three main rivers that meander quietly through densly wooded regions on their way to joining the mighty Limpopo River.

This game rich reserve is part of the larger United Waterberg Biosphere and is malaria free. Founded in 1993, this game reserve is one of the largest private investments in conservation in the world.

The paths to the Mhondoro main lodge and between the chalets offer tantalizing glimpses of the waterhole which is situated just in front of the game lodge.

The Mhondoro Game Lodge features a large viewing sundeck where guests are welcome to bide away the time. The swimming pool invites for a refreshing swim on hot summer days.

The central dining room, bar, outdoor boma and gym are all situated in or around the main lodge and are easily accessible from the chalets. A nearby chalet houses a well stocked library and entertainment centre that also serves as an exclusive venue for small corporate retreats.

Accommodation:

Luxuriously appointed private game lodge chalets are located along the ridge overlooking the waterhole and adjacent plains with the Waterberg mountains in the distance. Each chalet at Mhondoro provides its own elegant sense of style and décor, designed to make one feel pampered, spoiled and special. Large double sliding doors lead onto the private viewing sundeck where guests can . The en-suite bathrooms at Mhondoro have a choice of indoor shower, hippo sized bath or a secluded outdoor shower.

Dining:

Dining at the exclusive Mhondoro Game Lodge is an unfortgettable experience. Breakfasts, after the early morning game drive, are either full English breakfasts at the lodge or 'bush breakfasts' in the wild. Picnics en route or lunches at the lodge are available for those arriving mid-day. Afternoon tea is served shortly before the afternoon game drive. Four course dinners range from superb international cuisine served at the lodge's dining room to braais served in the open air boma around a wood fire under the African skies. Mhondoro boasts a wine cellar fully stocked with the best South African wines.

Welgevonden Game Reserve:

Welgevonden is home to 75 species of animals, including the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Rhinoceros) and over 350 species of birds. It has an large variety of antelope from the dainty Klipspringer to the mighty Eland and is home to the largest private population of white rhinoceros in the world. Game viewing is offered in specially designed open vehicles equipped with elevated seating and adequate protection from the elements. Foot tracking is also available for those wishing to experience a more intimate relationship with the bush and its fauna. Driving through the reserve in the 4 wheel drive game viewing vehicle, after the arrival at the main gate, guests will be treated to their first sighting of the reserve's permanent residents: Impala, Warthog, Giraffe, Rhino, Kudu, Eland, Elephant and many others.
