Directions to the Safari Lodge

The Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge is centrally situated and is thus an ideal base from which to explore the area. The lodge can easily be found, just 7km off the tarred R40, slightly north of Hoedspruit. The Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge is en-route to or from the Panorama Route and the Blyde River Canyon, via the Abel Erasmus Pass. The Kruger Park is also close by: both Orpen & Phalaborwa Gates are about 80km from the lodge.

Directions From Johannesburg - 4½ hours
  • Join the N12 towards Witbank
  • N12 joins the N4 at Witbank and continue to Belfast.
  • At Belfast take the R540 to Dullstroom & Lydenburg.
  • Continue through Lydenburg and towards Ohrigstad along the R36.
  • Pass through the Abel Erasmus Pass and through the JG Strydom Tunnel towards Hoedspruit along the R527.
  • At Hoedspruit the R527 will intersect with the R40.
  • Turn left and travel along the R530 (R40) for 10kms and turn right at the Mohlabetsi signboard.
  • Enter the manned security gates and travel 7kms and drive straight into the camp, where a warm welcome awaits you.

LIMPOPO LODGE ACCOMMODATION

The Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge is situated 10 kilometers north of Hoedspruit in the Lowveld area of the Limpopo Province of South Africa. The lodge is easily accessible, being only 7kms off the R40, a major road along the western boundary of the Kruger National Park. The safari lodge is centrally situated between the Orpen and Phalaborwa Gates of the Kruger National Park, and is not far from the magnificent "Panorama Route", along the Drakensberg Escarpment.

The Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge forms part of the Balule Nature Reserve, a 50 000-hectare conservation area bordered by the Olifants River to the North, Klaserie Nature Reserve and the Kruger National Park to the east and the R40 national road to the west. Balule is incorporated into the Greater Kruger National Park Management Area. This lodge has exclusive traversing rights over some 2 500 hectares, and have joint traversing over a further 5 000 hectares.

The Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge is situated in the 55 000 hectare Balule Nature Reserve, which is part of the Greater Kruger Park. Animals can be observed in their natural surroundings, in a pristine ecosystem. The Lodge conducts game drives and foot safaris with competent and enthusiastic guides. The camps are unfenced and allow for a wonderful bush experience.

Accommodation

The Safari Lodge is the main camp and features six twin or double-bedded thatched rondawels, all of which are en suite. The Mohlabetsi Lodge as provides 2 Family Chalets, which are interleading twin and double rooms, each with their own facilities.

The rooms at the Lodge are comfortably appointed and are of a 4 star TGCSA ( Tourism Grading Council of South Africa ) standard. The lodge features a large trophy room and lounge, with many interesting artifacts and wood carvings, an outdoor bar and lounge with wonderful views over the bushveld and a well frequented waterhole, an indoor dining room and a boma, where campfire dinners are served.

The Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge offers its guests access to its swimming pool. Guests may also enjoy massages in the "Tranquility Lapa" with a wonderful bush ambiance. The lodge offers star gazing experiences in the evenings, using well-informed guides and powerful laser pointers as well as an 8'' telescope.

Safaris / game drives at the Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge

Game drives depart the lodge in the late afternoon, carrying on into the evening. Guests are taken in open Land Rovers, and a sundowner stop is enjoyed before the flashlights are used. Animals are plentiful and are well used to vehicles, so sightings of game are an exciting adventure and often include the "Big 5". The guests are returned to the lodge for dinner about an hour after sunset. Dinners are innovative and served around the campfire of the reed boma. The lodge takes guests for safari drives and guided bush walks in the morning at sunrise, and return for breakfast after about three to four hours.
