Children
Children under the age of 8 years can unfortunately not be accommodated at the Savanna Private Game Reserve , unless the entire camp is booked. Children 11 years and younger sharing with an adult pay 50% of the full rate.
What to take
For guests staying at the Savanna Lodge, we recommend to take the following items in order to provide for a pleasant and enjoyable stay:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sun hat, sunglasses & sun block
- Cameras & binoculars
- Anti-malaria precautions (please consult a doctor/pharmacist)
- Light, neutral colour clothing & swimming costume
- Warm clothing is essential especially during the winter months (i.e. May to September)
Access to the Savanna Private Game Reserve
Transfers - Road and Air
- Daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town to Kruger Mpumulanga International Airport (near White River) are available. Road transfers are offered from KMI Airport (MQP) in air conditioned which can be prebooked.
- Daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg to the Sabi Sands on Federal Air are also available.

- KMIA Airport -Savanna: ±1hr 15min driving time (±130km)
Directions to the Lodge by Road from Johannesburg or Pretoria
Take the N12, or N4 highway to Nelspruit. Follow the signboards towards White River. From White River, take the R40 to Hazyview. From Hazyview, turn right onto the R536 towards the Paul Kruger Gate. After approximately 34 km, turn left onto a dirt road to Huntington. Signs for the lodge will be visible at the turnoff. Just after 8 km from the tar road, there is a road turning right, with some signposts to the various lodges and Justicia Clinic. DO NOT take this road. At the next cross roads turn right. Follow this road for 1.8 km, then turn left at the T-junction. After 600m, turn left. 1.1 km later you will arrive at Newington Gate, where you need to pay an entrance fee. Keep the slips, as you will need it on your departure.
Malaria
We would like to advise that the Savanna Private Game Reserve is situated in a malaria area and we therefore recommend guests to contact their local pharmacy or doctor regarding precautions.

The Savanna Private Game Reserve is located in the game rich Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which borders South Africa's famous Kruger National Park.
Savanna is the epitome of a fully inclusive and diverse African wildlife and cultural experience. An unforgettable and adventurous safari through the untamed African Bush and an interesting insight into the local tribal customs of the Shangaan people, form a once in a lifetime safari experience.
The central facilities of the Savanna Lodge consist of a swimming pool, a dining room, lounge, bar and an open air boma, all overlooking a waterhole which is floodlit at night. Full English breakfasts and lunches are served on the veranda and dinner is served either in the dining room or in the starlit boma, warmed by a roaring log fire.
The Savanna Game Lodge pays great attention to detail and exceptional levels of personal service. The professional guides are well qualified in the ways of the bush in order to provide clients with a unique and unforgettable African safari.
Accommodation
The Savanna Lodge features nine beautifully appointed suites, seven of which have a tented roof and draped inner ceiling. These suites at Savanna offer the sophistication of a permanent structure, which ensure luxury and privacy to its guests.
The lodge provides three Executive Suites, each of which has a private plunge pool, wooden deck and an indigenous garden area. The en-suite bathrooms feature a double wash basin, enclosed toilet, a French bath and an outside shower.
The four Luxury Suites are of equal standard though slightly smaller and without the private swimming pool and outside shower. All suites at the Savanna Lodge are air conditioned, provide a tea/coffee station and a well stocked mini bar.
The two Savanna Suites are built under thatch and are the quintessence of luxury and comfort. A wooden deck leading onto a private plunge pool, provide uninterrupted views of a floodlit waterhole. The Savanna Suite consists of two separate bedroom suites, which are divided by a large lounge leading onto a veranda, which is suitable for private dining. The en suite bathrooms each have a mahogany vanity area, double shower, freestanding bath, separate toilet and an outside shower. The Savanna Suite can be used as one unit, which is ideal for families, accommodating a maximum of four guests and included in the rate is a private land rover, waiter in attendance and private dining.
- Luxury Suites - four air conditioned suites with mini bar
- Executive Suites - three air conditioned suites with lounge area, plunge pool, outside shower and mini bar
- Savanna Suite - two air conditioned suites with lounge area, plunge pool, outside shower and mini bar. Separate lounge with verandah divides the two Suites.
The Savanna Suite can be sold as one unit or two individual bedroom suites, excluding the lounge.
Please note that each Suite may accommodate double or twin beds and the Executive and Savanna Suites can accommodate one additional guest.
Wildlife at the Savanna Private Game Reserve
The Savanna Private Game Reserve covers ten thousand hectares of unspoiled African bushveld where frequent sightings of Africa's big game occur during the early morning, late afternoon and evening game drives.
Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah, hippo and crocodile, many more animals and over 450 bird species can be observed from the comfort and safety of the open game drive vehicles.
Game drives at the Savanna Private Game Reserve are conducted by professional well trained game rangers and trackers, who are experienced and knowledgeable on all aspects of the African bush.
The Sabi Sand region in South Africa is well known for having the best leopard sightings in the world and is famous as " The Land of the Leopard".
Landrovers are used for the game drives and have been modified to ensure guests safety and comfort. The Landrovers can accommodate up to 10 passengers if required. There are never more than two vehicles at a sighting except with very relaxed animals in open terrain in which case three vehicles may be allowed at the sighting. The afternoon game drive is purposefully interrupted for sundowners to witness an african sunset, and the absolute peace and quiet of the bush.
Optional walking safaris are offered to guests staying at the Savanna Camp, in order to experience the beauty and fascination of Africa's flora and fauna.
Unique bush dinners and bush breakfasts are on request, weather permitting. Daily trips from the Savanna Lodge to the local Shangaan Village and a tour of the scenic Panarama route is available. These activities are offered during the day and will not affect participation in the daily game drives.
