Activities

Activities for guests staying at the Savute Under Canvas Camp in the Chobe National Park include adventurous game drives in semi-open 4x4 safari vehicles one of which is conducted in the early morning and one in the late afternoon.

Game Viewing at Savute

The Savute region in Botswana is renowned for its predator interaction, especially between lion and hyena. This area in the northern parts of the Chobe National Park offers some of the biggest lion prides in Botswana and sightings of the elusive wild dog and leopard are not uncommon. In the dry season, guests have the opportunity to view large elephant bulls congregating by a waterhole in search of a thirst-quenching drink and the occasional mud bath. Visitors can bear witness to the awe-inspiring spectacle of the annual zebra migration in October, November and again in March and April.

BOTSWANA ACCOMMODATION

The Savute Under Canvas Camps is situated in the Savute Region within the Central Chobe National Park in Botswana, Southern Africa. Guests have the unique opportunity to enjoy wilderness camping in private campsites in Northern Botswana on or near the banks of the Chobe River.

Carefully positioned in luxurious permanent camps in central Chobe National Park, the Savute Under Canvas tented camp features six unique ensuite safari tents. Guests staying at the Savute Under Canvas Lodge in Botswana are provided with the memorable opportunity to experience the pristine beauty of Botswana and its untamed wildlife at its best.

During the rainy season, Savute, is home to the annual zebra migration, which peaks in January and February when the zebra and wildebeest congregate in vast numbers to graze on the sweeter grasses brought on by the rains. It is not uncommon that guests have the chance to experience a close encounter with a leopard, cheetah, hyena, elephant or the African wild dog. Savute is also home to the lion. The landscape of Savute itself is very different from the lush Chobe riverfront. Savute provides an almost desert-like feeling that has animals escaping the heat by grouping together in the limited available shade. The stark dead trees found in the dry Savute channel are the evidence of an erratic flow of the Savute River over the years.
