Wildlife at the Shakama Game Reserve, Waterberg region
The five star Shakama Game Lodge nestles in the heart of the 5000 hectare Waterberg Estate Reserve which is home to abundant game and bird life.
This game reserve in South Africa does not offer the 'Big 5' as yet, but rhino, hippo and over 20 other indigenous game species roam this nature estate. The Shakama Lodge is ideally suited for eco-tourism offering clear views of game and an endless variety of natural habitat.

Bela-Bela and surrounding area is becoming the bushveld golfing Mecca in South Africa with two world class golf courses already opened and 3 more underway.
Shakama is in close proximity of the Elements Golf Reserve and the Zebula Country Club (previously known as Mabalingwe Golf course) and two other soon to be announced.
The location and facilities at Shakama makes it the perfect choice for golfers who wish to play at any of these courses and be pampered with a massage at the lodge's spa and a sumptuous dinner at the end of a day out on the course.
Directions to the Shakama Game Lodge, Waterberg
- From Pretoria, take N1 to Polokwane.
- Take Warmbaths / Bela Bela to the left
- Turn right at T-junction as you reach town. Cross the bridge over railway line and turn left at the robot just after crossing the bridge.
- Approximately 100m further this road will make a 90 degree turn to the right, reaching a T-junction with Chris Hani Drive a further 100m after the turn.
- Turn left into Chris Hani Drive.
- 50m after the Aventura Forever Resorts entrance to your left, turn right into Grobler street, also marked Elandsfontein, Rankins Pass, Alma. (Grobler street becomes Robertson street).
- Drive through suburb and stay on this road for approximately 25km (tar ends after approximately 10 km).
- Find Shakama gate to your left.
- Drive on "main" track for approximately 3.5 km to the Shakama Lodge.
- Visitors driving to the Shakama Lodge should be aware of driving 19km of dirt road to reach the lodge. Some areas of this road may not be suitable for low-profile / sport vehicles. Any visitors driving in cars should drive slowly and with caution to ensure a safe and trouble-free journey.

With 12 luxury en suite rooms and conferencing facilities for up to 28 delegates (boardroom), the Shakama Lodge is an ideal venue for leisure and corporate travellers alike providing for small conferences, strategic planning sessions or romantic weekends.

Accommodation at the Shakama Lodge
The Shakama Lodge offers accommodation in ten fully serviced thatched suites, which are complete with en-suite bathrooms. Six of these suites feature outdoor showers in addition to the indoor bathrooms. All suites at the Shakama Lodge & Spa in the Waterberg provide private decks overlooking a ravine of unspoilt nature.
A self-catering camp consisting of two en-suite "split level" cottages, communal kitchen and lapa, is also available. This camp named "Eagles Nest" can accommodate up to 8 guests sharing and is only rented as a unit on either a self-catering or accommodation only basis.
Due to the slopes on which the chalets at the Shakama Lodge were built, stairs between different floor levels may not make the accommodation suitable for physically handicapped persons.
Entertainment at the Shakama Lodge, Limpopo Province
A fully serviced bar, a comfortable lounge and dining area open up onto a viewing deck which are the focal point of social activities at the Shakama Lodge. At night, guests are welcome to enjoy pre-dinner drinks and snacks around an open fire in a boma admiring the spectacular view.
Conference facilities at Shakama, Waterberg
The Induna conference room at the Shakama Lodge offers the ideal setting for meetings in boardroom style or seminars in classroom style. White boards, overhead projector, screens, light projector, TV and VCR are available.
This conference room offers comfortable seating for up to 24 delegates with top quality facilities and an atmosphere to stimulate any conference activity. In addition, the Wine Cellar can seat up to 10 delegates in air-conditioned comfort and privacy. The Shakama Lodge area also offers comfortable seating areas for four break-away groups.
Telephone, e-mail and fax facilities
The Shakama Lodge does not have fixed line telephone facilities but, unlike most game lodges in South Africa, clear cellphone signals are available in and around the main lodge area. The Shakama Lodge offers access to a guest terminal with internet access at a nominal fee for 15 minutes' usage.
Spa and Wellness facilities at the Shakama Lodge
Guests staying at the Shakama Lodge are invited to spoil themselves and experience true relaxation and rejuvenation at the health and beauty spa. The Shakama Wellness Centre consists of a gym, a sauna, a jacuzzi and several spa therapy rooms.
Special spa treatment can be reserved from a comprehensive spa menu and guests may be pampered whilst enjoying the sounds of nature. The Shakama Wellness centre is an oasis of calm, peace and relaxation, which allows guests to shed every layer of stress. The spa offers a wide array of beauty treatments, massages, revitalizing and shaping treatments in a cosy thatched environment with views over African bush.
