THE BUSH HOUSE /
MADIKWE / NORTH WEST PROVINCE

The Bush House is an old homestead situated in the western part of the Madikwe Game Reserve in the North West Province of South Africa. The Bush house is more like a home than a hotel. This charming game lodge provides a rich history and has therefore many stories to tell. A maximum of ten guests can be accommodated in double rooms, which are simply decorated but equipped with air-conditioning, mosquito nets and percale linen. The veranda and the garden over look one of the best waterholes in the Madikwe game reserve and often the sightings from the Bush House are as exciting as they are on the game drives. The Bush House provides its visitors with more than a game lodge experience; it is a comfortable and unique home in the Big Five Country.

The Madikwe Game Reserve is run by the North West Parks and Tourism Board, reclaimed over seventy five thousand hectares of farmland and turned it into a wild life sanctuary that has become home to a wonderful variety of Africa's animals.

Guests visiting Madikwe have the opportunity to witness this wonderful interaction of game in one of the finest conservation areas in the continent. The reserve has one of the largest elephant populations, all the predators as well as the endangered wild dog, black and white rhino, buffalo and general plains game. Bird life is abundant.

Photographic opportunities are endless, not only from the raised vantage of your vehicle whilst on game drive but also from the shaded serenity of the garden. The water feature and feeding log ensure a steady flow of wonderful bird life during the course of the day.

Game drives are conducted through the year during times when the game activity is generally at its best, early morning and late afternoon into evening. The morning safari departs at sunrise, and the evening game drives leave late enough in the afternoon for guests to enjoy a bush sunset and the opportunity to view nocturnal animals after dark which provides for a memorable experience. The spectacular southern night skies, especially vivid during the winter months, provide guests with stunning views of famous constellations such as the Southern Cross, Orion in summer and Scorpio in the clear winter evenings.

The offered bush walks afford guests the ultimate close-to-the-wild experience, and a chance to focus on the smaller bush inhabitants including birds, insects and butterflies. One can also discover the interesting worlds of tress, grasses, flowers, geology and ecology and of course, occasionally big game can be seen on these exhilarating walks, including the Big Five.
