TSHWENE LODGE /
WELGEVONDEN / LIMPOPO PROVINCE

The 5 star Tshwene Game Lodge is situated in the malaria, Big Five Welgevonden Game Reserve in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. The Lodge can be reached by a 3 hour road transfer from Johannesburg.

The sister lodge Ekuthuleni is in close proximity to Tshwene, each lodge being able to accommodate a maximum of 10 guests, with a combined maximum group size of 20.

Guests can relax in the comfort of a double room with bathroom en-suite, an indoor and private outdoor shower, as well as a secluded entertainment area which provides breathtaking views of the untamed African bush. From the private wooden deck, one can listen to the calls of a passing herd of elephant, or one can watch the African sun set into the bush as it sinks over the horizon.

On the game drives, guests experience the excitement of the big five in their natural habitat. The lodge's qualified game rangers take guests in the open game viewing vehicles to entertain them with their knowledge and experience of the bush. Two game drives are offered daily, one early morning and afternoon / evening game drive.

The exclusive Tshwene Lodge features two lounges, a swimming pool, indoor and outdoor dining areas which are set on a huge wooden patio from where magnificent views can be enjoyed. The Tshwene Lodge has its own private helicopter pad and the Welgevonden Game Reserve has two private landing strips.

The Welgevonden Private Game Reserve is a 34 200 ha, privately owned game reserve in the heart of the Waterberg in the Limpopo province of South Africa. It first started as a conservation area in 1993 through a private sector initiative that resulted in the consolidation of numerous private farms.

Prior to the development of this malaria free game reserve, cattle farming was the dominant land use practice, and although agriculture was limited in this region, the old fields that were cultivated are clearly visible and constitute a distinct component of the landscape.

Welgevonden was developed on the basis of a freehold title, with the reserve being divided unto 500ha blocks that were sold to private individuals, syndicates or corporates for the purposes of private or commercial ecotourism.

The reserve is situated on the Waterberg Plateau and comprises mountainous terrain that is dissected by deep valleys and kloofs, with occasional old lands that have been allowed to regenerate since the reserve's proclamation. Flat plateaus characterise most hilltops, and altitude varies from 1080 m above sea level at the main entrance gate in the north of the reserve to 1800 m above sea level in the southern section of the reserve.
