The Selinda Adventure Trail offers an unforgettable exploration safari experience of 4 days on the Selinda Reserve Selinda Spillway in northern Botswana. This journey, which has set departure dates, provides a unique combination of either a canoeing and walking adventure or a pure walking safari experience. The exact route which is followed is flexible as it changes with the season. Due to water levels in the Selinda Spillway, changes in itineraries occur frequently.
With its set departure dates, guests enjoy a helicopter transfer to the start of the adventure trail from the Selinda airstrip. The end of the Selinda Adventure Trail is at the Selinda Explorers Camp where guests may extend their safari lodge stay at one of the lodges (Selinda Explorers Camp, Selinda Camp or Zarafa Camp and the Zarafa Dhow Suites) or be taken on a safari drive to the airstrip for their transfer to the Selinda airstrip.
Guests enjoy a fully inclusive safari experience which includes all meals, all related activities, a selected amount of soft drinks, wine and beer at meal times and the Selinda Reserve fees (subject to change). The flights and personal expenses are not included in the rates.
Depending on the availability of water in the Selinda Spillway, the Selinda Adventure Trail offers safari enthusiasts the choice of either a combination of canoeing and walking experience or fully guided walking experience.
With the route beginning downstream from the Selinda airstrip in the north-east of the Okavango Delta, it continues eastwards along the Selinda Spillway through the private 320 000 acres Selinda Reserve, ending near Selinda Explorers Camp.
The distance of the Selinda Adventure Trail changes as it depends on whether it is a walking or canoeing adventure. The walking distance is about 20 kilometres over the four days, and canoeing is approximately 40 kilometres over the four days. Along both routes, guests come across many species of wildlife which are home to the Selinda Reserve.
The Selinda Adventure Trail starts off with an exciting helicopter air transfer from the Selinda Airstrip on day 1 and finishes with a wildlife viewing road transfer from the Selinda Explorers Camp on day 5. The Selinda Airstrip is accessible by scheduled air transfers or private charters.
The private Selinda airstrip is licensed for aircraft as large as a King Air, Pilatus PC-12 and Cessna Caravan. Flying time in a Cessna Caravan from Maun to Selinda Airstrip is 45 minutes, and from Kasane, it’s 50 minutes. Operating times vary depending on the type of aircraft being used and prevailing weather conditions.
