Swimming Pool

The lodge has a magnificent heated, rim-flow swimming pool overlooking the escarpment.  It is the perfect location from which to enjoy sundowners and where to take a refreshing dip.

Observatory

The state-of-the-art observatory with a 20-inch telescope that is automatically operated, affording magnificent views of the universe.  Guests have the unique opportunity to observe the stars through the lens of the lodge's observatory grade telescope while dressed in a space suit.

Tandem Paraglider Buggy Flights

The Paraglider buggy is an incredible mini-aircraft. Guests can experience the excitement of its manoeuvrability and the thrill of its ability to fly very close to the ground, drop low into the Palala River and fly hi-speed just centimetres above its surface.

Using a regular Paraglider wing, the Paraglider buggy at Leobo can also thermal with the Eagles like a Paraglider.   No experience is required to participate this thrilling activity, no age restrictions.  The maximum passenger weight is 95kg.

Scenic Flights

 It’s lovely to be driven around the farm on a Land Cruiser as you see the wildlife close up. But if you want to take it up a notch, why not strap yourself into a helicopter and be flown around at low altitude over the reserve, yards above the flat-topped acacia trees, looking out for giraffe, buffalo, zebra, hippo, wildebeest or any of our wonderful collection of animals. You’ll get the opportunity to see some extraordinary sights from a vantage point that few will see. Min flying: 30 mins

Skydiving

If you’re someone who loves extreme sports, then how about a skydive above the African plains. You will be taken by helicopter to 20,000 feet as you look down at one of the best views you will ever see. Then prepare for an adrenalin rush like no other as you skydive with an instructor attached and hurtle towards earth.

Heli Fishing

With 8Km of the river, you can enjoy flying up the river to untouched fishing territory an authentic ‘Gone Fishing’ feel. Our dams are stocked with a selection of bass and trout, and the Lodge can provide all the rods and bait you’ll need to hook a fish. Fishing experiences are made exciting by the presence of groups of the inquisitive hippo.

What could be more relaxing than sipping a drink while fishing in one of the dams and listening to the sound of hippos as the sun goes down? We are proud to report that we regularly catch a bass over 2kg. Min flying: 1 hr

Heli Sundowners

You’ll get the opportunity to fly up and see some extraordinary sights from a vantage point that few will see. Land on the cliff tops overlooking thousands of acres of wilderness to watch the sun sink behind the clouds with a 360 degrees view. Min flying: 30 mins

Heli Picnics

With the most beautiful sunset and sunrises at different vantage points, there are multiple areas where one can enjoy cliff top picnics and sundowners. Min flying: 30 mins

Heli Paintballing

This is adrenaline to the max! A day out paintballing is always good craic, but shooting at guys on quad bikes is ridiculously cool! Min flying: 30 mins

Heli Kayaking

Why not jump in the helicopter with the two kayaks and fly to the top of the untouched 8km stretch of the Palala river. Our kayaks that are suited for the 8km stretch of the river. There are long, slow deep parts interspersed by rapids and depending on the rain; river levels may be high enough to get some good white water in some of the sections. The kayaks are equipped with fishing rod holders for those who would like to combine fishing while gliding down the river. Min flying: 30 mins

For those of you wishing to spend the day pampering and shopping, you are an hour’s flight from Johannesburg’s top shopping centres and malls.There is a fantastic range of local and global shops together with great day spas. Min flying: 2 hrs.

Malaria Status and Animals
  • The Leobo Private Reserve lies in a malaria free region of South Africa.  Wildlife, which is home here, are a giraffe, zebra, Cape buffalo, hippo and the occasional leopard sighting. A large variety of buck roams here which include impala, wildebeest, kudu, eland, red hartebeest, blesbok, steenbok, gemsbok, tsessebe and nyala.

This Lodge will allow a total of 17 guests to stay, and it is required that the entire facility is block booked. Therefore, guests are assured of absolute exclusivity and privacy.

The rooms at the Lodge are very spacious and have been beautifully decorated and appointed to ensure relaxation at its best. The bedrooms offer fireplaces, air-conditioning and scenic views of the valley, rolling hills and distant horizon.  The accommodation is a maximum of 18 guests including children in 8 separate cottages.

Lodge Cottages:

  • 4 Cottages with king size beds
  • 2 Cottages with 2 x single beds
  • 1 Cottage with four poster double bed (sleeps one comfortably)
  • 1 Cottage with 2 x bunk beds (ideal for four children).

The Observatory (1 - 4 guests)

Besides the Lodge, accommodation at the Leobo Private Game Reserve is provided at The Observatory Lodge, which accommodates nine guests in total.  It is required that the entire facility is block booked and as such, guests enjoy complete exclusivity and privacy.

The rooms at The Observatory Lodge are very spacious and feature unique decor.  All bedrooms provide safes, fireplaces, air-conditioning and magnificent views of the surroundings.

The bedrooms and bathrooms offer luxurious spaces with both main bathrooms featuring baths and showers and the master bedroom offering guests an outdoor shower.  Exclusive towels, robes, as well as slippers and robes, are provided. The lodges electrical outlets serve appliances from Europe, the UK and South Africa.  Each of the bedrooms has a safe.

The veranda which leads to the outdoor, heated infinity swimming pool offers a perfect place for relaxation in comfortable sun beds.

Directions

Directions from the OR Tambo Johannesburg International Airport to the Leobo Private Reserve:

It takes about 3 and a half hours from Johannesburg.

Take the R21 North to Pretoria, and then the N1 north to Pretoria and Polokwane (Pietersburg).
Carry on with the N1 past Pretoria heading north.
At the third tollgate, exit far left towards Modimolle/Marble Hall (Nylstroom direction) (R33).
Drive straight through Modimolle (Nylstroom) towards Vaalwater, about 70km.
In Vaalwater at the first and only 4way stop turn right.
Drive for approximately 33 km past Eventieria/Mpatamacha game pens and take the next turn off to the right that reads Sondagsloop (green sign). This is a gravel road (about 11km).
Drive to a T junction and turn right past Waterberg Game Park.
2km further you will go through a security checkpoint. 2km further you will get two signs reading Ditoro, Sediba and Leobo. At these signs turn into the gate on your left.
At the next sign reading Leobo, turn right fork. Leobo Lodge will be lying in front of you.
Drive around it and come in from the back.


Access to Leobo by air:

There is a small landing strip at the reserve, suitable for light aircraft.
It is also possible to arrive by helicopter. Guests can be collected from the OR Tambo Johannesburg International Airport and flown to the lodge.
A flight by helicopter takes about an hour depending on the wind.

Parking

On site parking facilities are provided for guests.
