Amakhala Safari Lodge Reviews & Information

Use the drop down below to find out more information about Amakhala Safari Lodge.

Located alongside the famous Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape, the Amakhala Safari Lodge is a short and scenic 45-minute drive from Port Elizabeth airport.  Amakhala has a good reputation for game viewing, including the Big 5, and guests enjoy a wonderful experience at the lodge, with spacious and comfortable accommodation, warm hospitality and delicious meals that are included in the rate.

This intimate thatched lodge with its unique air-conditioned safari huts and signature stone capped roof tops, offers all the comforts of a luxury Safari lodge and is an undisturbed retreat where you can regenerate your soul and tune into the sounds of nature. Canvas drop blinds open up the safari huts and lounge areas to views of the waterhole where monkeys come to play and antelope and zebra to quench their thirst.

Upon arrival, the friendly staff will make you feel at home, while you slowly sip on a refreshing drink. Indulge in sheer relaxation as you unwind next to the pool overlooking the lush African bushveld before we usher you away on an exciting game drive where you will be served delectable sundowners in the bush. An exclusive boat cruise through the majestic Bushmans River will leave you in awe of our magnificent scenery.

Amakhala Game Reserve is stocked with a great variety of wildlife including Elephant, Giraffe, Rhinos, Lions, Leopard, Buffalo, Wildebeest, Zebra and many other species. Guided day and night time Game tours are available.

The Safari Lodge also offers a luxurious Wedding venue with ambience, hospitality and personal service. Amakhala caters for weddings up to 24 guests and provides menus to suit your preferences.

The Safari Lodge, with 11 unique safari suites sleeps 24 people and is completely separate lounge areas. Large beds draped with mosquito nets, sparkling wine on ice alongside a double bath filled with aromatherapy scented bubbles make this a favourite for honeymooners and the romantic at heart.

Restaurants

Amakhala Safari Lodge Dining

The resident chef prepares simple food with enthusiasm and flair. Four-course dinners start with delicious soups and homemade bread, followed by traditional dishes such as venison and ostrich often cooked safari style over coals.

The experienced staff will treat you to a South African braaivleis in the tranquil setting of an African bush boma.

Swimming

There is a lovely swimming pool to cool down in and around which the kids can socialise.

Game Viewing

Guests enjoy twice daily game drives in the early morning and late afternoon when the wildlife is most active.  You may be lucky enough to spot the Big 5 and their will be plenty of other species to view along the way.  The guide will also educate you on the Amakhala conservation ethos and other diverse aspects of the ecosystem.

You might also like to enjoy a gentle walking safari, during which the emphasis is more on the signs of animals that have passed as well as learning about the magico-medicinal uses of various plants.

Sunset cruises and canoeing are also options that can bring you close to wildlife, and these are conducted on the slow moving Bushmans River.
