The Kichaka Game Lodge in South Africa's Eastern Cape is just a one hours drive from the Port Elizabeth Airport in malaria free, "Big 5" Kichaka Private Game Reserve.

The main lodge blends seamlessly into the magnificent landscape of the Eastern Cape. The main lodge overlooks a large waterhole which is frequented by a hippo, giraffe, elephant and countless other game.

The lounge and dining areas have been built to provide a beautiful view over the untamed bush. Large terraces stretch over the waterhole and offer a magnificent viewing deck for guests. The garden also extends into a small island creating an enchanting outdoor dining area.

Guests are invited to relax and enjoy a swim with the hippos in the lodge's rim-flow pool adjacent to the waterhole or to enjoy the sun, cocktails and glorious views on the large pool terrace. The Lodge also provides conference facilities. The office area offers PC's, internet access, fax and scanner services to all guests. Above the lounge, one can find a library, which is available as a meeting room overlooking the waterhole.

The immediate camp area is secured by discreet electric fencing to ensure the safety of guests and to deter elephants from destroying the trees. Due to this protection, guests staying at the Kichaka Lodge have the opportunity to walk freely around the camp and enjoy the local flora and bird life.

Accommodation

Each of the ten exclusive suites has been built to provide every amenity, attention to detail ensures comfort and luxury.  The well-appointed suites are stone and thatch. In secluded settings, the suites offer complete privacy and spaciousness.

Particular care has been taken to provide spectacular views from the lounge, bedroom, and bathroom of each suite at the Lodge. Each 70m² suite features a lounge area with large glass sliding doors on two sides which open wide, making these rooms part of the surrounding bush. The suite boasts a large viewing deck and private heated plunge pool. Available amenities include the fully-stocked bar fridge, telephone and free internet access and 24-hour room service. State of the art air-conditioning and underfloor heating provide year-round comfort, and the bathrooms have both shower and bath facilities.

They offer 5-star cuisine and impeccable personal service. The lodge provides the choice of private dining in the suite, enjoying meals in the main lodge dining room, outdoor dining at one of the specially designed outdoor dining areas or in the library.

For the wine connoisseur, this Lodge offers an extensive wine cellar with a range of premier wines. The selection of fine wines available here is broad and well rounded.

Game Drives

The Game Drives and the Lodge will be conducted by the most experienced game rangers to ensure all guests see the exceptional game lives in the Malaria Free Reserve. Animals include; lions, elephants, rhinos and buffalo, as well as cheetah, hippo, giraffe, hyena, zebra, warthog and numerous species of antelope are enjoyed on game drives across the open plains of the reserve.

The night game drives offer guests the incredible opportunity to star gaze in wonder at the Southern Hemisphere's Milky Way and identify Orion's Belt, The Southern Cross and Scorpio with the guidance of the experienced rangers. Guests can also arrange a Cosmic Safari and view the wonders of space with the high powered telescope. On night drives, the elusive aardvark, aardwolf and other game are often seen.

Large herds of plains game, including eland, gemsbok, springbok, wildebeest and zebra among others, which boasts diverse vegetation including five Biomes: savanna grassland, valley bushveld, fynbos, riverine forest and acacia woodland. Hippos regularly reside in the waterhole here, and sightings can be enjoyed from the comfort of the viewing deck.

The Kichaka Lodge is beautifully located just a one hours drive from the Port Elizabeth airport which was brilliant with us travelling from Durban.

The main lodge overlooks a large water hole which is frequented by hippo, giraffe, elephant and countless other game.

We had a great stay.

Directions

The Kichaka Lodge is just over one hour from Port Elizabeth airport.

Directions from Port Elizabeth Airport 110km:
1. Leave the airport turn left at the traffic circle
2. Continue to the railway line and turn right at the traffic lights (Heugh Rd)
3. Continue straight to the last traffic lights at the bottom of the hill
4. Turn left and followed the N2 towards Grahamstown for 100 km
4. Turn left at the Kichaka sign
5. Continue 3,5 km on the gravel road
6. You will arrive at the Kichaka Lodge gate on your left
7. Proceed up the road to the reception area where Kichaka Staff will meet you.
