Wilderness Safaris Magashi Lodge

★ ★ ★ ★

The magnificent Magashi Camp is located in the north-eastern corner of the Akagera National Park in Rwanda, East Africa. Operated by Wilderness Safaris, the eco-tourism experts, this extraordinary camp overlooks the beautiful Lake Rwanyakazinga.

This Big-Five park is surrounded by scenic savannah and a multitude of African wildlife. Exceptional game-viewing with leopards, lions, buffalos, black hippos, zebras, Defassa waterbuck, impala, eland, Masai giraffe and topi, crocodiles, as well as the rare sitatunga.

Both black rhinos and a healthy population of lions reintroduced to Akagera National Park, after a twenty-year absence, the reserve is Rwanda’s only home to the African iconic savannah megafauna.

Four-hundred-and-eighty species of birds have been recorded sighted on the park, with a hundred of these only found in this protected Rwandan area. Spectacular sightings of the Papyrus Gonolek dancing amongst the reeds as well as the wide variety of raptors, including the Bateleur, the White-backed and Ruppell’s Griffon Vultures and Brown-Snake-eagle can be spotted here.

Magashi Camp offers daily guided dawn and dusk game drives, offering you the chance to spot many African mammals in their natural habitat. Boating safari trips in and around Lake  Rwanyakazinga, and guided safari walks with experienced guides, will give you plenty of opportunities to view many magical wildlife sightings.

And for those who enjoy the tranquillity of fishing Magashi offers you the opportunity of catching tilapia and catfish on a catch-and-release basis, all whilst surrounded by the true feeling of Wilderness with hippos snorting and watching the many water birds that make this lake their playground.

The variety of areas to explore, including vast open plains, woodlands, lakes, swamp, and grassy low mountains all create endless magical spaces for wildlife enthusiasts!

The stunning views over the lake from the six spacious tents, each positioned to maximise the outstretched panoramic vista will make you want to stay here forever. Magashi’s main area includes a luxurious lounge, with its architecture and interior, influenced by the colours and tastes of Rwandan culture, including a dining and bar area, a sparkling pool designed perfectly for chilling in after the game-drives and the expansive viewing deck with a convivial fire pit will allow you to enjoy the warmth of the evening fire as you admire the stars above.
