Surrounded by 26 000 hectares of magnificent African Conservancy, just a 5 hours drive away from Johannesburg, one can find the Makalali Private Game Reserve which is home to the luxurious lodge.

This magnificent safari lodge offers some of the most beautiful lodge accommodation in South Africa's Limpopo Province and is near the Drakensberg Mountains and the western border of the Kruger National Park.

The reserve holds the title as being one of the finest private safari lodges in Africa. The lodge has been beautifully designed to match the natural colours which surround it. The buildings feature thatched roofs and strong earthy colour walls creating a warm and welcoming ambience for guests. The main lodge and the rooms have all been decorated using traditional African patterns, designs, and artworks. The lodge is within the wildlife-rich reserve which is home to hundreds of animal species including the famous African "Big 5".

The hotel is spread over four beautiful and exclusive camps. Each camp offers six spacious and luxury rooms featuring their private swimming pools, lounge areas, open-air restaurants and a closed dining area. The rooms at the Lodge are individually decorated with African-inspired themes providing en-suite bathrooms, a fireplace, an outdoor shower and a private viewing deck. The king beds provide mosquito nets.

Dining

The Lodge offers a unique dining experience where guests can enjoy a variety of mouth-watering traditional African-inspired meals. The culinary staff strives to provide their guest's service that is fit for royalty. Special dietary requirements are catered for.

The lodge nestles in 26 000 hectares of land which is home to Africa's magnificent wildlife. The most widespread activity is the daily safari drives. Safari drives depart twice daily, in the morning and the afternoon. Guests are taken out of a 4 x 4 vehicle and lead on a hunt for the wildlife that calls the reserve home. If guests are lucky, they may have the opportunity to observe Africa's "Big 5."

The lodge also offers activities to entertain the young explorers who visit the lodge. The children program runs over three days and teaches children necessary bush survival skills. Children between the ages of 6 to 12 can partake in this program. On completion of the activities, children have graduation where they receive a photo and a certificate of completion.
