★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Makweti Safari Lodge is ideally positioned to explore the entire Welgevonden Game Reserve on the open safari vehicles accompanied by the professional game rangers.

This exclusive safari lodge accommodates a maximum of ten guests in the five Luxury Suites in which guests are ensured exclusivity and tranquillity. The luxury suites, as well as the dining room of the lodge, afford beautiful panoramic views across the gorge-defined valley making for a magnificent setting.

Makweti lodge Suites have been designed to establish a peaceful balance between the shade and the light which dominates the bushveld environment. The interior features warm African fabrics which are well combined with the fresh, colonial-style linens. It is here where guests enjoy magnificent vistas and romantic seclusion.

The memorable safari experiences at Makweti are complemented by discreet elegance, luxurious accommodation and gourmet, world-rated cuisine. Home to Africa's "Big Five" which include leopards, lions, elephants, rhinos and buffaloes, the lodge features no fences to the surrounding bushveld.

From the viewing deck and the open lounge one can observe wildlife quenching their thirst at the stream-fed waterhole. The main room, the lodge's discreet bar, the outdoor swimming pool and the viewing decks are a short walk away from the Luxury Suites.

Each meal at Makweti is an elegant and graceful culinary experience. African-inspired themes and locally sourced ingredients complement the exclusive wine list where guests find some of the best South African wines. Usually, dinner is in the candlelit dining room.

Weather permitting, guests enjoy dining in the outdoor boma which is a traditional enclosure around log fires. As a member of the Chaine des Rotisseurs, which represents the typical hallmark of excellence in culinary service and cuisine, guests with high dining expectations will find themselves in paradise here.

Unforgettable safari experiences await where an astounding diversity of wild species, which include the Big Five can be observed in their natural habitat. The knowledgeable game rangers introduce visitors to the local wildlife and its complex ecology.

The early morning and late afternoon safaris take place in the lodge's open vehicles. The walking safaris are tailor-made to match the guests special ecological and wildlife interests. The thrilling walking safaris are to be pre-booked and are subject to availability.

This 40 000 vast wilderness reserve is part of the more significant, UNESCO-declared Waterberg Biosphere Reserve. This unique biosphere in South Africa is known for its high-plateau geology, beautiful cloudscapes, crystal clear streams and its great diversity of wild species.

Transfers can be arranged which include locations such as the OR Tambo Johannesburg International Airport. After about a three to four hour drive, travellers enter the main gate to the Welgevonden Game Reserve. It is here where own cars, as well as rental cars, are parked.
