Marataba Safari Lodge Reviews & Information
Use the drop down below to find out more information about Marataba Safari Lodge.
The Marataba Lodge private concession covers 23 000 hectares in the heart of Limpopo's Marakele National Park in South Africa. This area is characterised by a dramatic landscape encompassing vast plains, dense bushveld, winding rivers, deep gorges and majestic mountains.
Guests visiting Marataba have the unique opportunity to view Africa's Big Five and a multitude of other animal species including rare antelope such as roan, sable and mountain reedbuck. This malaria-free wilderness is also home to the world's largest breeding colony of the endangered Cape Vulture. Birdlife within the Marakele Park is prolific with more than 400 species having been recorded, a real birder's Eden.
The luxurious Safari Lodge features exclusive tented suites all of which are saturated with the sights, sounds and smells of the African wilderness. These tented guest rooms are an intriguing mix of canvas and stone, exquisitely furnished and decorated.
En-suite marble bathrooms providing shower and bath as well as his and hers basins and a dressing room are the epitome of bushveld opulence. The 15 tented suites each have their private deck overlooking the sweeping plains and meandering river below. Other room facilities include an outside shower, ceiling fan and in-house communication.
Guests can admire the spectacular view while enjoying a cocktail in the Ladies Bar or just relax in one of the lodge's elegant lounges with a book from the library, housed within the stone tower offering a birds-eye view of the breathtaking surroundings.
Delicious gourmet cuisine with fresh African flavours is served either in the elegantly appointed dining room or outdoors on the dining verandah or, alternatively, under a glorious African sky in the boma. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing swim in the lodge's swimming pool when the temperatures rise in the Limpopo Province. The main lodge also boasts a Guest Business Centre.
The recommended check-in time is around mid-day. The Marataba lodge's delicious luncheon is served between 12h30 and 14h00, and after that, the guests have the opportunity to indulge an afternoon siesta in the luxurious suite, laze by the pool or just absorb the tranquil atmosphere of the African bush.
High Tea is followed by an exciting game drive with an experienced guide, with time for a quiet cocktail on return to the Lodge before being seated for dinner between 19h30 and 20h00.
Guests will fall asleep listening to the distant sounds of the African night - the distant roar of a lion, the trumpet of an elephant, the grunt of a hippo. Guests receive a discreet wake-up call in time for breakfast and the morning game drive or walk, and so a new day's adventure begins. Day excursions to Marakele's Endangered Species Project can be arranged.
