Mfuwe Lodge is located in the South Luangwa region of Zambia, Southern Africa, and is set around two natural lagoons beneath a canopy of mature ebony and mahogany trees. The setting creates a calm introduction to the Luangwa Valley and provides a strong sense of place from the moment of arrival. Wildlife is frequently drawn to the water, making animal sightings a regular part of daily life in the area.
The location serves as a central point for exploring the surrounding park and is often used as the beginning or end of journeys to nearby bushcamps. The overall atmosphere balances comfort with immersion in nature, allowing guests to relax while remaining closely connected to the surrounding environment.
Accommodation
The accommodation is arranged around the lagoons and gardens, with each chalet positioned to provide privacy and views of the surrounding wildlife activity. Open plan reception, lounge, dining, and bar areas overlook the water, where hippos and other animals are frequently visible throughout the day.
Each of the 18 air conditioned chalets includes a private veranda that offers an ideal vantage point for observing wildlife movements. Inside, the rooms feature a comfortable sitting area, king size or twin beds, and a spacious en suite bathroom with a walk in shower. The suites include an additional upstairs seating area, while the family rooms are designed to comfortably accommodate two children, making them well suited for longer stays.
The layout encourages both relaxation and connection to the environment, whether unwinding indoors or spending time outdoors watching the ever changing scenes around the lagoons.
Experiences
This part of South Luangwa is known for its high wildlife density, and animals such as giraffe, hippo, buffalo, antelope, and crocodile are regular visitors to the lagoon area. Game drives form the core activity and offer excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing throughout the year.
Walking safaris can be arranged on request, allowing for a slower and more detailed exploration of the landscape. A particularly distinctive seasonal occurrence takes place between late October and mid December, when elephants regularly pass through the main area, drawn by fallen fruit from a nearby wild mango tree. This natural movement has become a defining feature of the location.
Additional experiences include community visits and wellness treatments, offering a balanced mix of wildlife encounters and cultural or restorative activities.
