Monachira Camp, Moremi Game Reserve
An Immersive Wilderness Experience in the Heart of the Delta
Tucked away in the Moremi Game Reserve, Monachira Camp takes its name from the serene Monachira Channel that flows beside it. Elevated wooden decks provide panoramic views of the vast floodplains, teeming with wildlife and framed by the rhythms of the surrounding wetlands.
Here, adventure and serenity coexist. From thrilling game drives and guided nature walks to tranquil mokoro rides and seasonal boating safaris, Monachira offers a deeply immersive journey into one of Africa’s most biodiverse and breathtaking landscapes.
Signature Experiences: A Safari Like No Other
Game Drives
Embark on classic open-air game drives across the untamed beauty of Moremi. Led by expert guides, these excursions take you deep into diverse terrains, revealing incredible wildlife moments - elephants moving in silent procession, big cats in pursuit, or antelope grazing on the horizon.
Mokoro Safaris
Glide silently through reed-fringed channels in a traditional-style mokoro—a dugout canoe historically used by local tribespeople. These peaceful, water-level safaris bring you eye-to-eye with the Delta’s hidden world: frogs on lily pads, dragonflies dancing, and rare birds nesting in the reeds. Mokoro safaris are water-level dependent and typically available during flood season.
Boating Safaris
Explore the remote waterways of the Okavango Delta or the nearby Chobe River system aboard a motorboat. This seasonal experience offers a unique perspective of aquatic life and riverside wildlife—hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and dazzling birdlife—accessible only by water.
Boating safaris in the Okavango are usually offered between May and August; Chobe River experiences are available year-round.
Guided Nature Walks
Set out on foot with our knowledgeable guides and connect more intimately with the land. These walks focus on the smaller wonders of the bush - tracks, insects, plant life, and bird calls, offering a richer understanding of the ecosystem that surrounds you.
Birdwatching
With an extraordinary variety of habitats - wetlands, floodplains, forests, and pans - the region is a paradise for bird enthusiasts. Spot both resident and migratory species, from the majestic African fish eagle to elusive Pel’s fishing owl.
Tented Lounge & Dining Area
The heart of Monachira is its spacious, open-plan tented deck—a welcoming communal space where guests gather to dine, share stories around the firepit, or sip sundowners at the bar, all while immersed in the sounds and sights of the wild.
Plunge Pool
Cool off under the African sun in our refreshing plunge pool, with uninterrupted views of the bushveld. Whether you're floating peacefully or basking on a lounger, it's the perfect midday retreat after your morning safari.
Spa Treatments
Relax and rejuvenate with an in-room spa treatment, designed to soothe body and mind. Let our qualified therapist ease your tension with a calming massage or facial, using techniques inspired by the surrounding natural elements.
Airstrip Access
Located just a short game drive from the nearest airstrip, Monachira ensures seamless transfers - often with a safari en route. Your journey begins the moment you touch down.
Wi-Fi Connectivity
While digital detox and deep reconnection with nature is encouraged, the need to stay in touch is well understood. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in guest rooms, offering just enough access without compromising the remote, unplugged experience.
Sustainable Energy
Monachira Camp runs on clean, renewable solar energy. The state-of-the-art thermodynamic system ensures a steady supply of hot water—rain or shine—while reducing the ecological footprint.
