The Sand Rivers Selous Lodge lies on the banks of the Rufiji River making for a most scenic wildlife viewing destination.

The lodge is located in the vast Selous Game Reserve of southern Tanzania, East Africa. Guests are accommodated in open-fronted stone and thatch chalets in the heart of nature while enjoying all the comforts of a safari lodge.

Great wildlife sightings of the river's residents, as well as the abundance of birds, complement the large mammals make for an adventures safari experience. Access to this camp in Tanzania is gained through the numerous daily flights to the airstrip (Kiba) from Dar es Salaam, Ruaha, Zanzibar and northern Tanzania.

The eight open-fronted safari chalets offer maximum comfort and afford scenic views over the river. The maximum is made out of the natural light, space and the cooling breeze. Made out of stone and thatch, the chalets are open to the front side and offer decks overlooking the river.

The five Riverside rooms offer en-suite bathrooms, cold and hot running water, as well as flush toilets and showers. The three Hillside Suites feature a spacious living area and a small plunge pool.

Guests enjoy relaxing and socializing at the bar towards the end of the day, where refreshing beverages are served. The main lodge area is open-fronted offering a welcoming place to cool off. A library is available as well as various dining venues such as around the swimming pool, or privately tucked away.

Guests are taken on thrilling safari drives in open-sided 4x4 vehicles offering great wildlife encounters, wonderful scenery and photographic opportunities. Breakfast can be set up on a magnificent sandbank in Stigler's Gorge from where the elusive monkey-hunting crowned eagles can be admired.

The best walking safaris in Selous are those where visitors travel at a slow and gentle pace not covering much distance, only a few kilometres in an hour, rather stopping regularly to look and listen. When one arrives at the flycamp in the early evening, it is all about experiencing nature at its best. One can watch elephants passing by the camp in the moonlight. Sleeping in the heart of the untamed African bush makes for an outstanding and unforgettable experience.
