Sekoma Island Lodge – The Ultimate Zambezi Fishing Escape

Nestled on a secluded island in the mighty Zambezi River, upstream of the world-famous Victoria Falls, Sekoma Island Lodge offers an exclusive wilderness retreat in the eastern Caprivi region. Accessible only by traditional dugout canoe in most areas, the island provides complete privacy and access to one of Africas most renowned freshwater fishing destinations.

Located where the borders of Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe converge, and where two great rivers meet, Sekoma Island Lodge delivers an unforgettable blend of spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and exceptional angling. Together with neighbouring Ilombe Island Lodge, guests enjoy a unique island experience in the heart of the Upper Zambezi.

World-Class Tiger Fishing

The Upper Zambezi is widely regarded as one of the finest tiger fishing destinations in Africa. Home to more than 70 fish species, the river is famous for its hard-fighting Tigerfish, while also offering excellent catches of Nembwe (Olive Bream), various bream species, tilapia, African pike, and catfish.

Experienced fishing guides escort guests to the river's most productive fishing grounds, ensuring an exciting day on the water for both seasoned anglers and beginners.

Sekoma Island Lodge operates a fleet of eight boats, each powered by a 55hp outboard motor. Every boat accommodates either two fly fishermen or up to four lure anglers, allowing for comfortable and personalised fishing excursions.

Fishing Seasons

Fly Fishing (June – Early September)

  • Crystal-clear winter waters create ideal conditions for sight fishing and targeting Tigerfish on the fly.

Lure Fishing (June – December)

  • Artificial lures are highly effective during these months, producing thrilling strikes from aggressive Tigerfish.

Drift & Live Bait Fishing (October – November & March – May)

  • These periods offer outstanding opportunities to hook some of the river's largest Tigerfish.

From mid-July through September, adventurous anglers can also navigate untouched rapids by inflatable boat, adding another level of excitement to the fishing experience.

Please note: Zambia's annual fishing ban applies from December through February.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment, although conventional rods and reels are available for hire.
