5 Day Okavango Delta Tiger Fishing Adventure at Nxamaseri Island Lodge
Nxamaseri Island Lodge – A Timeless Okavango Delta Retreat
Hidden within the tranquil waterways of Botswana's legendary Okavango Delta, Nxamaseri Island Lodge is one of the region's original safari lodges. Established in the early 1980s by renowned guide PJ Bestelink and his wife Barney, the lodge was carefully positioned on a secluded, tree-shaded island after months of exploring the Delta in search of the perfect location.
The beautiful Nxamaseri Channel, with its permanent waterways, abundant wildlife, and peaceful surroundings, proved to be the ideal setting for this exceptional safari retreat.
Today, Nxamaseri Island Lodge combines authentic Botswana hospitality with understated luxury, offering guests an intimate safari experience surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Inspired by the rich culture and traditions of Botswana, the lodge features inviting lounges with panoramic views over the Delta's waterways, comfortable seating areas, and a relaxed atmosphere where guests can unwind while taking in the beauty of their surroundings.
As part of the renowned Desert & Delta Safaris collection, Nxamaseri Island Lodge forms part of one of Botswana's premier luxury fly-in safari circuits. Its convenient road access also makes it an excellent addition for self-drive travellers exploring Botswana or visitors journeying between Namibia and Victoria Falls, providing a striking contrast to Namibia's arid landscapes.
Tiger Fishing
From March through December, fishing becomes one of the lodge's signature activities. The Delta's permanent channels are home to the legendary Tigerfish, one of Africa's most exciting freshwater game fish, renowned for its speed, power, and spectacular strikes. Whether you're an experienced angler or trying Tiger fishing for the first time, the pristine waters surrounding Nxamaseri promise an exhilarating and memorable fishing adventure.

Wildlife & Experiences
The pristine waterways surrounding Nxamaseri offer an unforgettable way to experience the Okavango Delta. Glide silently through narrow channels aboard a traditional mokoro (dugout canoe), expertly poled by local guides. Floating effortlessly across crystal-clear waters, guests enjoy an intimate perspective of the Delta, drifting past water lilies, colourful dragonflies, reed frogs, and the vibrant fish species that inhabit these remarkable wetlands.
Exceptional Birdwatching
Nxamaseri Island Lodge is regarded as one of the Delta's finest birding destinations, with outstanding sightings throughout the year. Birdwatching is particularly rewarding between September and February, before the annual floodwaters arrive. The waterways attract an impressive variety of kingfishers, herons, storks, jacanas, fish eagles, and numerous species of waterfowl, while the surrounding riverine forests and islands provide habitat for an abundance of woodland birds.
Guided Nature Walks
Explore nearby islands on guided walking safaris, reached by boat or mokoro. These leisurely walks offer the opportunity to discover the Delta's quieter corners, observe shy forest wildlife and birdlife, and experience the untouched beauty of this extraordinary ecosystem at a slower pace.
