Whether you are picking up a camera for the first time or you are an experienced wildlife photographer, Tswalu offers exceptional opportunities to develop your skills while photographing breathtaking landscapes and remarkable wildlife.

Photographic Safari at Tswalu Kalahari Reserve

The reserve's striking scenery—featuring the rugged Korannaberg Mountains, rolling red Kalahari dunes, and vast open savannah—creates the perfect setting for spectacular wildlife and landscape photography throughout the year.

Photograph at Your Own Pace

Unlike traditional safari schedules, Tswalu offers complete flexibility. Every booking includes a private safari vehicle, allowing guests to spend as much time as they wish at wildlife sightings without being restricted by fixed drive times or other guests' schedules.

Position your vehicle for the perfect composition, wait patiently for the ideal light, or observe fascinating animal behaviour until the perfect photographic moment unfolds. With exclusive access to sightings, you'll enjoy uninterrupted opportunities to capture memorable images.

Private Guide, Tracker & Personalised Tuition

Every safari is led by your own experienced guide and tracker, whose expert knowledge of wildlife behaviour and the surrounding landscape helps place you in the best photographic positions.

Beginners receive practical advice on camera settings and photographic techniques, while seasoned photographers benefit from unlimited time in the field to refine their skills and pursue unique wildlife encounters.

Private Photographic Guide

Guests looking to elevate their photography can book a dedicated Specialist Photographic Guide. Suitable for all experience levels, this exclusive service combines expert wildlife knowledge with professional photographic coaching, helping you improve both your technical ability and creative vision.

Whether you're learning the fundamentals or fine-tuning advanced techniques, your guide will provide personalised, hands-on instruction throughout your safari.

Why Book a Photographic Guide?

For those new to wildlife photography, your guide will introduce essential techniques including:

  • Camera settings and exposure
  • Composition and framing
  • Choosing the correct shutter speed
  • Understanding depth of field
  • Photographing wildlife in varying light conditions.

More experienced photographers can focus on advanced positioning, creative composition, and capturing rare wildlife behaviour while benefiting from the expertise of a professional wildlife photographer.

Purpose-Built Photographic Safari Vehicle

A full day with the Specialist Photographic Guide includes exclusive use of Tswalu's custom-designed photographic safari vehicle.

Built on a modified Land Rover platform, the vehicle has been specifically equipped for wildlife photography and features:

  • Rotating 270-degree swivel seat for unrestricted shooting angles
  • Lockable stabilising arm and camera platform for long lenses
  • Bean bags, camera slings and support brackets for maximum stability
  • Side viewing hatches that allow photographers to shoot comfortably at eye level with wildlife
  • Spacious layout suitable for one or two photographers

These specialist features allow photographers to capture exceptionally sharp, stable images in complete comfort.
