Overlooking the Elephant Dam the main lodge takes visitors back in time with their 1800’s pieces dotted around the property. Formerly the old family farmhouse, the inn is now home to glamorous slipper baths, unique wash-stands, old Oregon cupboards and tables, a former coal stove as well as traditional luggage chests.

Askari is a 1-hour drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria a fabulous retreat with its daily safari drives (twice a day) and Big 5 thrilling experience notwithstanding the Elephant Experiences that facilitate guests interacting with the elephants including a touch-and-feed activity.

For Askari visitors who enjoy a historical perspective on things, the collection of animal-drawn vehicles from 1800 to 1900, including ox waggons and carts, is a definite drawcard. Items from the Boer War as well as San Bushmen rock carvings share a story of times gone by, and guides lead visitors through the bushveld to where sculptures can be found.

Meetings at the lodge are sure to be successful as superb facilities, attentive staff and delicious food are the order of the day. The peaceful surroundings of bushveld and wildlife ensure that team building activities (e.g. spa treatments and safari drives) are useful.

The Spa treatments are inspired by the ingredients provided by the surrounding areas, steeped in history. African women, for years on end, have used blends of natural herbs to boost health and beauty. The benefits of the Wild Olive Tree, Artemisia Afra (also known as the Wormwood) and especially Aloe Vera are widely known for their healing properties, and the spa uses a combination of ancient as well as modern practices to bring harmony to every individual. The spa offers a variety of treatment rooms including an individual’s suites, a couples room (with double shower and couples-hydrotherapy bath) as well as men’s and ladies changing rooms and a steam room. Also incorporated are a manicure and pedicure lounge, a juice bar and a swimming pool with day beds.

The whole Askari spa complex opens up to an outdoor relaxation area with views of and access to private gardens. Walkways take visitors through the beautiful gardens, and these walks can form part of the treatments as a pre- or post-treatment. While therapists massage tired muscles and dissolve impurities, visitors will find that both their mind and body are rejuvenated.
