The Chobe Chilwero is in Botswana, Southern Africa, on the banks of the Chobe River. Chilwero can be translated as "place of high view" in the local language of Setswana.
The Chobe Chilwero lodge borders the Chobe National Park, which is the second-largest national park in Botswana covering an area of 10,567 km².
The Sanctuary Lodge nestles above the Chobe River and offers unparalleled panoramic views of the islands and floodplains as far as Namibia.
The Chobe National Park covers a diversity of landscapes ranging from riverine forests to floodplains and periodic marshlands. This particular region of Botswana is home to the largest concentration of elephants in Africa, as well as an abundance of hippo, buffalo, antelope and lion.
Chobe Chilwero guests staying at the lodge enjoy the elegantly appointed chalets, the delicious gourmet meals which are complemented by fine wines as well as superb safari drives.
Travellers are welcome to relax in their luxurious thatched chalets, which feature ensuite, sunken handcrafted baths, indoor and outdoor showers, a terrace and a private garden, which is completed with a hammock overlooking the magnificent Chobe River. The Lodge features 15 bungalows, six kings and nine twins.
The Lodge offers a library, a curio shop as well as a communications centre. Although the lodge is in Botswana, it can easily be accessed from Zambia, and the world-famous Victoria Falls are within a convenient distance.
Guests can enjoy a day trip to visit the Falls, which can be arranged. Guests have the opportunity to experience thrilling guided safari drives in open-sided 4x4 vehicles on which Africa's largest concentration of elephants, as well as hippos, buffalos, puku, antelope, lions and other creatures that gather on the banks of the Chobe River, a be observed in their natural surroundings.
Additionally, the Lodge also offers fantastic water safaris on specially adapted motorboats. Sundowner cruises are particularly spectacular on the Chobe River and provide for an unforgettable adventure. At an additional cost, fishing excursions are also available.
A refreshing dip in the swimming pool awaits the traveller followed by a sumptuous meal which is a delicious, eclectic fusion of Western and African cuisine and delicacies. From the Lodge's cellar, guests have the chance to sample vintage wines and spirits. High teas are often served on the lawn under the shade of the trees.
The central public area of the lodge includes a lounge and dining room, which are linked to outdoor viewing patios. The wine cellar is temperature-controlled and is stocked with a large variety of the most exquisite South African and European wines.
A range of spa treatments is offered in the lodges health and beauty spa. The lodge also boasts a split-level swimming pool, library, curio shop and a communications centre, which provides a telephone, fax and internet access. Electricity, 240 volts, is permanently supplied.
The lodge is accessible by road and air. Kasane has its international airport, which is approximately 10 minutes away by road. Chobe Chilwero has a preferred air charter company which offers an excellent service linking most camps in the region including Baines' Camp, Chief's Camp & Stanley's Camp. Road transfers to the lodge are available to/from Zimbabwe and Zambia, which take approximately 1½ hours.
