Fishing Seasons

  • March–April, August–December: Tiger Fish & Barbel (peak Barbel Run: late Aug–early Nov)
  • April–August: Best for Bream
  • Jan–Feb: Closed season for fish breeding

The Barbel Run Explained

This annual event is exclusive to the Okavango Delta. As water levels drop (typically starting in mid-August), baitfish known as "Bulldogs" begin to spawn, sending out electric pulses. These attract barbel, which in turn ignite a frenzy that draws in predatory Tiger Fish and flocks of birds. It's Africa’s freshwater version of the Sardine Run and a bucket-list spectacle for anglers and wildlife enthusiasts alike.

Fishing Boats

Nxamaseri uses custom-built 6m aluminum flat-bottom boats:

Lure Fishing: Max 3 anglers per boat

Fly Fishing: Max 2 anglers per boat

Small group focus (4–6 people). Larger groups can be accommodated with advance boat hire.
