The Giraffe Manor

Dining at Giraffe Manor

Giraffe Centre

The Giraffe Centre is a breeding centre for Rothschild Giraffes and operates a conservation and educational program for local school children. A nature trail surrounds the centre, meandering into the surrounding forests. The Giraffe Centre has helped to preserve this original habitat for the giraffes and the other animals that live in the area. Guests can enjoy walks on the nature trail.

  • Visits to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage - the orphanage is a small charity that rescues orphaned baby elephants and rhinos whose parents are often taken by poachers. Guests have the opportunity to watch feeding and bath times and watch the calves playing with footballs and chasing each other. The calves are gradually introduced to Tsavo National Park depending on the health of the calf

  • The Manor is famous for the herd of friendly Rothschild Giraffe that lives on the property. 

    Giraffe Manor is also home to a variety of other animals including warthog, bushbuck and more than 180 species of birds.

Children Policy
  • Children of all ages are welcomed, children aged 3 to 15 years are charged child rates while children 16 years and over are charged at the adult rates. Children 2 years and under are considered infants and are accommodated free of charge.

Social Responsibility
  • The Manor was a family home and then was run by Jock and Betty Leslie-Melville whose work with the Rothschild Giraffe is world renowned. Although their efforts in raising and re-introducing these animals back into the wild have had a dramatic impact on increasing the species, these giraffes are still an endangered species. The Giraffe Centre on the property is a breeding centre for the endangered giraffe, and the centre operates conservation programs for local Kenyan children.

Giraffe Manor is a 40-minute drive from Jomo Kenyatta airport and a 20-minute drive from Wilson Airport although airport transfers are available.

Directions from Wilson Airport:
1. Take the 1st left onto Airport North Road and go through 1 roundabout, take a slight right on Mombasa Road.
2. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Langata Road and go through 2 roundabouts.
3. Turn left at Langata South Road and continued onto Ushirika Road.
4. Turn left at Koitobos Road and keep following the signs to The Giraffe Centre. 5. The gates to Giraffe Manor will appear on your right before you reach The Giraffe Centre.
