Accommodation is provided in six spacious and well-appointed suites each of which stands on its offering much privacy and exclusivity.  Children of all ages are welcome at the Ecca Lodge with the suites being able to accommodate two children under the age of 16 together with their parents.  From the wooden deck, magnificent bushveld views can be admired while enjoying the unique sounds and smells of its surrounding.

Children Activities

Children 5 years and younger can unfortunately not participate in game drives unless a sole-use safari vehicle is booked.  Based on availability, this private vehicle can be provided at no charge.  These trips with children usually take place during the day between the scheduled early morning and afternoon/evening game drives.  Kids between the ages of 6 to 11 may join the scheduled game drives at the discretion of the lodge's manager.

Furthermore, kids have the opportunity to participate in the ‘Stripes & Hooves’ adventure at Ecca Lodge, which is a one hour morning game drive after breakfast to view the reserves 'non-aggressive’ game which includes giraffes, zebras, monkeys, warthogs and others.

Besides the game drives, children have many other exciting activities to look forward to which include baking, art and craft, chocolate mould making and many other.

The finest cuisine combined with excellent wines are available for guests at Kwandwe.  Various dining venues make for unforgettable safari style settings.  Enjoying a dinner in the outdoor boma under the star studded African sky are unique while the roars and sounds of the surrounding wildlife are heard.

Game Drives

Early morning game drives, as well as afternoon / evening game drives, provide visitors with an excellent opportunity to explore the game reserve with its many animals.  Up close encounters with the "Big Five" (rhino, buffalo, elephant, leopard and lion) as well as other game and buck are thrilling.

Walking Safaris

While walking through the bushveld accompanied by an armed ranger, guests learn more about the little animals as well as about the plants and flowers in the reserve.  Tracking big game such as elephants, rhinos and buffaloes on foot in the wilderness, makes for an unforgettable experience.

Save the Rhino Drive

Guests may spend 3 to 4 hours tracking a rhino with a specialist tracker and ranger team through the reserve.  One learns a lot about this endangered species, about rhino poaching as well as the reserves successful conservation efforts.  This unique wildlife experience ends with refreshments served in a scenic location of Kwandwe.

Private Photographic Safaris

For the private specialist photographic safaris, a safari vehicle with ranger and tracker are available whereby each experience is tailor made according to guests’ individual requirements and wished.  During the photographic game drives, the photographer joins the guests on the vehicle providing them with advice of camera settings for different scenarios and answers any questions relating to photography.

Ecca Lodge features only six suites which are individually decorated. These provide ample of space, luxury and privacy. Open and airy, these provide barely a barrier between the elegant indoors and the African bush making for a great indoor/outdoor accommodation experience.  Each of the stand-alone suites features different and vibrant colours.  The wraparound wooden decks offer private plunge pools. 
 
Children of all ages are welcome to stay at the Ecca Lodge, with a maximum of two children aged 16 years and younger able to share with their parents.

Directions

Direct flights from Port Elizabeth to the Lodge's Airstrip takes around 30 minutes. Flights directly to the Game Reserve are scheduled for early afternoon, to allow arriving guests to enjoy an afternoon game drive on their day of arrival.

Guests are advised to fly to Port Elizabeth and proceed to Kwandwe by road or air transfer. The distance from Port Elizabeth to Kwandwe is 160km (100 miles) and can be comfortably covered by road in 1 hour and 45 minutes.

On arrival, guests will leave their vehicle at the car park at Heatherton Towers and will be transferred to the Lodge of their choice by an open safari vehicle.
