The beautiful Mziki Safari Lodge nestles in the malaria free Mziki Private Nature Reserve, which can easily be reached from Johannesburg and Pretoria within a one and a half hours drive. It is at this safari destination in the North West Province of South Africa near Rustenberg where nature and wildlife enthusiasts may enjoy up-close encounters with Africa's great animal word.

Guests have the opportunity to admire beautiful giraffes, mighty rhinos and ever alert impalas and wildebeest as well as beautiful birds, to name but a few, in their natural habitat. Reasonably priced, this private safari escape is perfect for visitors with a love of nature and the African bushveld or small conferences with a difference. The Private Game Reserve spreads over 12,500 acres of wilderness teeming with magnificent animals and birds.

Accommodation

Comfortable accommodation is the order of the day at the Mziki Private Game Reserve.  There are four rooms available in the main lodge which offer views of the swimming pool and waterhole which animals visit on a regular basis.  These rooms are ideal for parents who wish to stay next to their children while enjoying privacy in their private rooms.

Alternatively, guests have the option of chalets or rondavels which are situated in the lush and indigenous garden of the lodge, providing constant reminders of the beauty of Africa. The chalets and rondavels are located apart from each other offering guests privacy and exclusivity during their stay. The front porch of each cottage invites for relaxation while taking in the beauty and sounds of the bushveld.

The family chalets at the lodge can accommodate two adults and two children sharing in two extra lengths three-quarter beds as well as one sleeper couch.  The bathroom provides a toilet, basin as well as a large luxury bathtub with shower.

The Mziki Safari Lodge features a large outdoor swimming pool which is in the exquisitely maintained garden. Sun beds are available around the pool so that guests can experience the ultimate in relaxation.

The dining area invites for delicious breakfasts in the fresh air.  Weather permitting, meals are served in the garden under magnificent trees. The evenings and nights in the bushveld make for a unique setting for unforgettable dining experiences when the candles, fires and oil lamps spread throughout the garden create a romantic safari atmosphere.

The main building at lodge features the reception area as well as the indoor lounge area.  During the warm summer months, guests enjoy the tranquillity and peaceful surrounding from one of the comfortable sofas at the outdoor area where relaxation and reading books can be enjoyed. This outdoor lounge is undercover and overlooks the swimming pool providing bushveld vistas beyond.

Conferences

Lovingly called the “Mama Hippo”, the lodge’s barge is an unusual venue for a small meeting with excellent bird viewing on the Vaalkopdam. If a less adventurous site is required, the inn offers a spacious conference venue for a maximum of twenty delegates, including breakaway areas if necessary. This meeting room provides standard conference equipment as well as its bathroom facilities and black out curtains.

Dining at the Mziki Safari Lodge

The Selous Boma at the Mziki Safari Lodge in the North West Province of South Africa is used to serve scrumptious meals around a roaring fire while the Bush Boma feeds the starving nature lovers beneath the stars.  Chefs at the lodge ensure that a superb combination of local and international gastronomy is provided daily.

Barge Cruise

“Mama Hippo”, the lodge’s 21 ft barge, takes visitors along the Hex River onto the Vaalkop Dam where an outstanding display of activities by the waterfowl will keep visitors enthralled.  The local wild life visit the dam to satisfy their thirst and visitors can quench theirs too with a refreshing sun-downer or two.  Please note that the barge cruise is water-level dependent.

Fishing

Fly and bait anglers will enjoy the challenge of fishing on the Hex River. The Mziki Game Reserves incorporates eight kilometres of the Hex River into its reserve offering fisherman the opportunity to catch Yellow Fish, Blue and Red Curper, Carp and Barbel.  Please note that fishing is on a catch-and-release basis to ensure the Fish-Eagle remains properly fed.

Conferences at the Mziki Safari Lodge provide delegates with an exclusive venue away from the distractions of the city.  The air-conditioned conference room seats between fifteen and twenty guests comfortably with fifteen guests in boardroom-style seating and twenty people in cinema-style seating.

All conference equipment is provided including a whiteboard and flip chart, overhead or data projector with a screen and pens and pads.  Various break-away areas are also available with ample tea and coffee available.

    Children between the ages of five and twelve years, sharing with parents, just pay for meals and game drives while children in a separate room will pay a minimal charge per child sharing per night.

Directions

Directions from Johannesburg to the Mziki Safari Lodge:

Follow William Nichol R511 past Diepsloot to R511 Hartbeespoort turnoff.
Follow winding and the mountainous road past two stop signs; 2 traffic lights; another two stop signs.
At 5th stop take the R511 direction Brits.
At the T-junction take the R511 left into and through Brits.
After Brits follow the R511 towards Thabazimbi.
36 km after Brits turns left towards Vaalkopdam and Beestekraal at the T-junction turn left, followed by a right turn after 1 km.
Follow the road for a few kilometers until you see a hill with a water reservoir.
Enter at the foot of the hill (the middle dirt road, with an open gate) and follow the road to the Mziki Safari Lodge Gate.
Phone the lodge number on the gate for access.
Enter the gate and please wait for the gate to close automatically behind you.
Continue straight down the main road until you find a fork in the road and take the right-hand road.
Follow this road to the lodge and park in the covered parking area provided.
