Dining at the Mziki Safari Lodge

The Selous Boma at the Mziki Safari Lodge in the North West Province of South Africa is used to serve scrumptious meals around a roaring fire while the Bush Boma feeds the starving nature lovers beneath the stars.  Chefs at the lodge ensure that a superb combination of local and international gastronomy is provided daily.

Garden Brunch is served beneath the beautiful Karee-trees in the gorgeous garden when guests return from their morning game drive.  Enjoy a cooked meal of bacon, eggs, sausages, tomatoes and delicious fried potatoes while washing it all down with fresh orange juice and tea or coffee.

Swimming

Guests to the Mziki Safari Lodge have the option of bathing in their large swimming pool, attractively located in the exquisite garden and protected by gorgeous trees.

Game Drives

An open safari vehicle provides unsurpassed views of the African bushveld and its game in the Mziki Private Game Reserve.  Both day and night drives are available, and the well-experienced game rangers ensure that trips are informative and exciting.

Bush walks

What can be more African than feeling the sand and intensity of the land on the soles of your feet?  Bush walks provide walkers with up-close-and-personal encounters with wildlife and the opportunity to witness their behaviors first hand.  Expert game rangers take walkers to places that vehicles are unable to go.

Barge Cruise

“Mama Hippo”, the lodge’s 21 ft barge, takes visitors along the Hex River onto the Vaalkop Dam where an outstanding display of activities by the waterfowl will keep visitors enthralled.  The local wild life visit the dam to satisfy their thirst and visitors can quench theirs too with a refreshing sun-downer or two.  Please note that the barge cruise is water-level dependent.

Fishing

Fly and bait anglers will enjoy the challenge of fishing on the Hex River. The Mziki Game Reserves incorporates eight kilometres of the Hex River into its reserve offering fisherman the opportunity to catch Yellow Fish, Blue and Red Curper, Carp and Barbel.  Please note that fishing is on a catch-and-release basis to ensure the Fish-Eagle remains properly fed.

With Sun City, and its incredible five stars The Palace of the Lost City Hotel, just a 40-minute drive from the lodge, visitors to the Mziki Safari Lodge have easy access to the glamour and glitz that is Sun City. Golfers will appreciate that the Sun City Resort, with its Gary Player Golf Course and the Lost City Golf Course, is a mere forty minute drive from the Mziki Safari Lodge. These world-class courses provide the ultimate golf challenge to even the sharpest golfer.  The lodge can assist with bookings as required.

Soccer and Rugby

Internationally renowned sports stadiums are in proximity to the Mziki Game Lodge providing football and rugby enthusiasts with the opportunity to watch live matches.

These arenas include the Royal Bafokeng (which is just 47km away) in Rustenburg, Loftus Versveld in Pretoria (106km away) and Ellis Park and Soccer City both located in Johannesburg (just over 120km away from the lodge).

Conferences at the Mziki Safari Lodge

Conferences at the Mziki Safari Lodge provide delegates with an exclusive venue away from the distractions of the city.  The air-conditioned conference room seats between fifteen and twenty guests comfortably with fifteen guests in boardroom-style seating and twenty people in cinema-style seating.

All conference equipment is provided including a whiteboard and flip chart, overhead or data projector with a screen and pens and pads.  Various break-away areas are also available with ample tea and coffee available.

For a slightly more adventurous conference, the lodge’s barge, “Mama Hippo”, offers an unusual venue for small meetings with outstanding bird viewing on the Vaalkopdam.

Children Policy
  • All children are allowed here, and those children under the age of four are free of charge when sharing parents.  

    Children between the ages of five and twelve years, sharing with parents, just pay for meals and game drives while children in a separate room will pay a minimal charge per child sharing per night.

  • Pets are not allowed at the Mziki Safari Lodge.

Directions

Directions from Johannesburg to the Mziki Safari Lodge:

Follow William Nichol R511 past Diepsloot to R511 Hartbeespoort turnoff.
Follow winding and the mountainous road past two stop signs; 2 traffic lights; another two stop signs.
At 5th stop take the R511 direction Brits.
At the T-junction take the R511 left into and through Brits.
After Brits follow the R511 towards Thabazimbi.
36 km after Brits turns left towards Vaalkopdam and Beestekraal at the T-junction turn left, followed by a right turn after 1 km.
Follow the road for a few kilometers until you see a hill with a water reservoir.
Enter at the foot of the hill (the middle dirt road, with an open gate) and follow the road to the Mziki Safari Lodge Gate.
Phone the lodge number on the gate for access.
Enter the gate and please wait for the gate to close automatically behind you.
Continue straight down the main road until you find a fork in the road and take the right-hand road.
Follow this road to the lodge and park in the covered parking area provided.

Please note that the speed limit within the reserve is 30km/hr.
You will need a cell phone to call the Lodge for remote gate opening.
