Featuring fourteen well-appointed luxury tents with en-suite bathrooms, guests enjoy great river views and may watch the resident hippos wallowing nearby.  The tents provide two double beds with floor to ceiling mosquito netting.  Families travelling with children are accommodated in comfort sharing a luxury tent together.  Two honeymoon suites, each featuring outdoor showers, are also available.

Activities

At this camp, wildlife viewing starts from the camp itself.  With a pod of hippos living in the river near the camp, many other animals come to drink.   Gets have the chance to learn about the traditional and vibrant way of life of the Maasai by visiting a nearby village.  During the interactive nature walks, guests experience the untamed African bushveld up close and personal while learning about plants, insects and trees.

Family on Safari

Olonana Camp welcomes children of all ages.  The Family Rooms offer two double beds making it possible for the children to share the same room with the parents.  Exciting children activities are on offer which includes specialised game drives as well as a visit to the nearby Masai village.  Kids learn how to make and shoot a bow and arrow, how to prepare and deliver a fire, how to build a hut and how to herd cattle.

In between wildlife viewing activities, visitors may enjoy relaxing spa and beauty treatments including facials and body massages.  Guests have the choice of various rejuvenating treatments such as a full body sweet and savoury scrub, a pure collagen velvet mask, an endocrine treatment journey or an Africology balancing scalp and foot massage. 

Manicures and copper & hot stone pedicures can also be booked.  The spectacular vistas over the Mara River and the soothing sound of the nearby river make for a magnificent retreat for relaxation.

Access

Various daily scheduled flights can be booked to and from the Mara.  In Kenya's city of Nairobi, scheduled flights depart from the Wilson Airport (about 45 minutes).  Also, a flight is also available from Samburu to the Mara and scheduled flights from the Mara to the coast of Kenya. 

The flights to Sanctuary Olonana land at the Kichwa Tembo Airstrip where guests meet their guide who transfers them to the camp which takes approximately 15 minutes.  Access by road is by driving to the Mara through the Rift Valley and takes about six hours from the city of Nairobi.

Olonana features an organic garden from which fresh vegetables and herbs are used in the restaurant. Guests can decide to enjoy picnics in the bush or dine outside alongside a magnificent log fire.

Spa Facilities

The mini-spa at Olonana Tented Camp offers a range of treatments for guests to enjoy. Treatments include facials and massages. Africology and French marine-based Thalgo products are used throughout the spa.

Malaria Status and Animals
  • The Masai Mara Reserve has an abundance of wildlife and is famous for the wildebeest migration. All travellers are advised to take precautions against malaria before travelling to Olonana.

Children Policy
  • Children of all ages are welcomed at Olonana Tented Camp. Children under 13 years of age are required to share with an adult and all children are welcome on game drives under the discression of the Camp Manager.

Social Responsibility
  • Olonana Tented Camp has a commitment to conservation. Guests staying at Olonana can help out by planting a tree in the camp's dedicated tree nursery. Trees are tagged with the donors name and help to offset deforestation in the Masai Mara. Olonana also has an innovative wetland system whereby grey and waste-water is treated and released back into the Mara River. Guests may visit the wetlands project and have a look at the constantly developing research taking place in the wetlands. An organic garden has also been set up at the camp where fruit, vegetables and herbs are grown for use in the camp's kitchen. The camp also provides training to a group of local Maasai women who craft bead-work for display and sale in the camp and for export purposes.

In Nairobi scheduled flights depart from Wilson Airport.

Flights to Olonana land at the Kichwa Tembo Airstrip where a guide will meet you and drive approximately 15 minutes to get to the camp.
If travelling by road, the drive to the Mara goes through the Rift Valley and takes approximately six hours from Nairobi.
