The magnificent Savanna Private Game Reserve nestles in the game rich Sabi Sand Reserve, which borders South Africa's famous Kruger National Park. The lodge offers guests the best safari experience when it comes to African wildlife, cultural experience, delicious meals and comfortable accommodation.

The facilities consist of a swimming pool, a dining room, lounge, bar and an open-air boma, all overlooking a waterhole. Sumptuous English breakfasts and lunches are available on the veranda and dinner are served either in the dining room or the starlit boma depending on the weather.

They offer nine beautifully furnished suites, seven of which have a tented roof and draped interior ceiling. These suites at the Lodge offer the sophistication of a permanent structure, which ensures luxury and privacy.

Furthermore, they provide three Executive Suites, each of which offers a private plunge pool, wooden deck and a natural garden area. The en-suite bathrooms feature a double washbasin, enclosed toilet, a French bath and an outside shower.

The four Luxury Suites are of equal standard though slightly smaller and without the private swimming pool and outside shower. All suites are air-conditioned, provide a tea/coffee station and a well stocked mini bar.

Wildlife and Activities

The Game Reserve covers a vast area of unspoilt African bushveld where new sightings of Africa's big game can be enjoyed during the early morning, late afternoon and evening game drives which are conducted by professional trackers and guides.
 
Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah, hippo and crocodile, many more animals and over 452 bird species can be observed from the comfort and safety of the open game drive vehicles.
 
The Sabi Sand region in South Africa is well known for the best leopard sightings in the world and is famous as The Land of the Leopard.

Guests can also have the chance to take part in walking safaris which will provide them with an opportunity to experience the beauty and fascination of Africa's flora and fauna. There are daily trips offered from the Lodge to the local Shangaan Village with also the option of taking a tour of the scenic Panorama route for those guests who want to experience this area to the fullest. These activities are available during the day and will not affect participation in the daily game drives.

Game viewing

The Savanna Private Game Reserve is in a 'Big 5' region of South Africa where sightings of magnificent wildlife including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino are frequent.

4x4 vehicles and qualified rangers who possess a vast knowledge of the African bushveld, take guests on close encounters with a large variety of wildlife. Numerous nearby dams and a series of waterholes in front of the lodge attract many species, especially in the dry winter months when elephants are daily visitors.

Children Policy
  • Children of all ages are welcome to stay at the Savanna Suite, which is in the Savanna Private Game Reserve in South Africa.  Children under the age of 8 years are not allowed at Savanna's main lodge.
     
    The thatched Savanna Suite is suitable for families as well as small groups wishing to share private time together in elegant, stylish surroundings. The meals are served by the private butler on the protected patio overlooking one of the waterholes, and there is a Bushbabies menu available for children. A Childminder is also available at all times.
     
    The private game ranger, tracker, and vehicle are available for game drives which are tailor made to suit family requirements. The Bushbabies program ensures children lot's of fun while learning about the unique African wildlife.

The three large Executive Suites at the Savanna Private Game Reserve feature canvas roofs for an authentic safari ambience and the romance of sleeping in Bedouin-style tents.   The unique canvas roofs are set above solid walls which provide comfort, privacy and security as well as efficient air-conditioning and fans.

Each Executive Suite at Savanna offers a spacious bathroom with free-standing bath, double vanities, double shower and toilet as well as outdoor shower atrium. The bedrooms feature plush sitting areas and glass doors which open onto covered patios with private plunge pools facing the waterholes in the bush.

Savanna Lodge was stunning, My husband and I had an unforgettable and adventurous safari through the untamed African Bush.

We had a beautifully appointed suite which we really enjoyed and we had a great day trip to the Shangaan Village and a tour of the scenic Panarama route.

- Johannesburg to Savanna: 5 and a half hours (approximately 480km)
- KMIA (Nelspruit) to Savanna: 1 and a half hours (approximately 130km)

Directions to the Savanna Private Game Reserve from Johannesburg or Pretoria:

Take the N12, or N4 highway to Nelspruit.
When you enter Nelspruit, turn left at the 3rd traffic light (Crossings Shopping Centre should be on your left) and followed the signboards towards White River.
From White River, take the R40 to Hazyview. You will reach a T-junction where you turn left and head into Hazyview.
Go through Hazyview, turn right after the footbridge onto the R536. Sign boards to Kruger National Park and Kruger Gate.
After approximately 34km, turn left onto a dirt road at the Sabi Sand - Newington Gate sign.
Travel for about 10km until you reach a large intersection, where you will see the Sabi Sand Newington Gate sign.
Turn right here and follow this road for 1.8km.
At the T-junction, turn left at the Sabi Sand Newington Gate sign and after about 600m, turn left at the Sabi Sand Newington Gate sign.
Follow this road for about 1 km until you arrive at Newington Gate. Keep the slip once you have paid and get it stamped at Savanna, as you will need to produce it at the gate on your departure.
Once in the gate turn left and followed the signposts to Savanna Lodge, which is approximately 1 km after the gate.

Directions to the Savanna Private Game Reserve from KMIA (Nelspruit):

From KMIA follow the signs to White River
At the first robot, turn right towards Hazyview onto the R40
From Hazyview, turn right (if coming from White River) onto the R536. Sign boards to Kruger National Park and Kruger Gate.
After approximately 34km, just after the brown Savanna Private Game Reserve sign turn left onto a dirt road at the Sabi Sand - Newington Gate sign.
Travel for about 10km until you reach a large intersection, where you will see the Sabi Sand Newington Gate sign.
Turn right here and follow this road for 1.8km.

Scheduled flights directly into the Sabi Sands Reserve, South Africa:

Daily return flights leave from the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to an airstrip in the Sabi Sands reserve. These flights are approximately an hour long, followed by a 40-minute game drive to the Savanna Private Game Reserve.
Scheduled flights are available to KMIA (Nelspruit) from Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
There are daily scheduled flights on SA Airlink from Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA). It is a 75-minute drive from the airport to the Savanna Private Game Reserve. Transfers can be arranged in air-conditioned, luxury vehicles with complimentary snacks and drinks. Guests can also fly direct to the Savanna Private Game Reserve from KMIA in 30 minutes.
