Dining at the Savanna Private Game Reserve

Gourmet dining is an unforgettable experience during a stay at the Savanna Private Game Reserve in South Africa.  Delicious breakfasts provide full English fare in addition to fresh fruits, yogurts, pastries, homemade mueslis and Savanna's famous 'smoothies'. Stunning candle-lit dinners during which traditional local dishes are available on the deck of the main lodge at Savanna.  On warm nights, exciting barbecues are enjoyed under the star-studded sky around a blazing fire in an open-air 'boma' or a candle-lit clearing in the bush.  A local choir entertains guests during dinner in this magnificent setting. Cuisine at the Savanna Private Game Reserve is of the highest standard, quality and presentation are prioritized, complemented by award-winning wines, chosen from Savanna's well-stocked wine cellar.

The Savanna Private Game Reserve is in a 'Big 5' region of South Africa where sightings of magnificent wildlife including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino are frequent.

4x4 vehicles and qualified rangers who possess a vast knowledge of the African bushveld, take guests on close encounters with a large variety of wildlife. Numerous nearby dams and a series of waterholes in front of the lodge attract many species, especially in the dry winter months when elephants are daily visitors.

Children Policy
  • Children of all ages are welcome to stay at the Savanna Suite, which is in the Savanna Private Game Reserve in South Africa.  Children under the age of 8 years are not allowed at Savanna's main lodge.
     
    The thatched Savanna Suite is suitable for families as well as small groups wishing to share private time together in elegant, stylish surroundings. The meals are served by the private butler on the protected patio overlooking one of the waterholes, and there is a Bushbabies menu available for children. A Childminder is also available at all times.
     
    The private game ranger, tracker, and vehicle are available for game drives which are tailor made to suit family requirements. The Bushbabies program ensures children lot's of fun while learning about the unique African wildlife.

Four Luxury Suites under canvas nestle amid beautiful indigenous trees abundant with birdlife at the Savanna Private Game Reserve near the Kruger National Park of South Africa.

The three large Executive Suites at the Savanna Private Game Reserve feature canvas roofs for an authentic safari ambience and the romance of sleeping in Bedouin-style tents.   The unique canvas roofs are set above solid walls which provide comfort, privacy and security as well as efficient air-conditioning and fans.

Each Executive Suite at Savanna offers a spacious bathroom with free-standing bath, double vanities, double shower and toilet as well as an outdoor shower atrium. The bedrooms feature plush sitting areas and glass doors which open onto covered patios with private plunge pools facing the waterholes in the bush.  

Due to their tranquil and secluded location, the Executive Suites at the Savanna Game Lodge provide a sanctuary of peaceful relaxation.

Directions

Distances to the Savanna Private Game Reserve, South Africa:

- Johannesburg to Savanna: 5 and a half hours (approximately 480km)
- KMIA (Nelspruit) to Savanna: 1 and a half hours (approximately 130km)

Directions to the Savanna Private Game Reserve from Johannesburg or Pretoria:

Take the N12, or N4 highway to Nelspruit.
When you enter Nelspruit, turn left at the 3rd traffic light (Crossings Shopping Centre should be on your left) and followed the signboards towards White River.
From White River, take the R40 to Hazyview. You will reach a T-junction where you turn left and head into Hazyview.
Go through Hazyview, turn right after the footbridge onto the R536. Sign boards to Kruger National Park and Kruger Gate.
After approximately 34km, turn left onto a dirt road at the Sabi Sand - Newington Gate sign.
Travel for about 10km until you reach a large intersection, where you will see the Sabi Sand Newington Gate sign.
Turn right here and follow this road for 1.8km.
At the T-junction, turn left at the Sabi Sand Newington Gate sign and after about 600m, turn left at the Sabi Sand Newington Gate sign.
Follow this road for about 1 km until you arrive at Newington Gate. Keep the slip once you have paid and get it stamped at Savanna, as you will need to produce it at the gate on your departure.
Once in the gate turn left and followed the signposts to Savanna Lodge, which is approximately 1 km after the gate.

Directions to the Savanna Private Game Reserve from KMIA (Nelspruit):

From KMIA follow the signs to White River
At the first robot, turn right towards Hazyview onto the R40
From Hazyview, turn right (if coming from White River) onto the R536. Sign boards to Kruger National Park and Kruger Gate.
After approximately 34km, just after the brown Savanna Private Game Reserve sign turn left onto a dirt road at the Sabi Sand - Newington Gate sign.
Travel for about 10km until you reach a large intersection, where you will see the Sabi Sand Newington Gate sign.
Turn right here and follow this road for 1.8km.
At the T-junction, turn left at the Sabi Sand Newington Gate sign and after about 600m, turn left at the Sabi Sand Newington Gate sign.

Scheduled flights directly into the Sabi Sands Reserve, South Africa:

Daily return flights leave from the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to an airstrip in the Sabi Sands reserve. These flights are approximately an hour long, followed by a 40-minute game drive to the Savanna Private Game Reserve.
Scheduled flights are available to KMIA (Nelspruit) from Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
There are daily scheduled flights on SA Airlink from Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town to the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA). It is a 75-minute drive from the airport to the Savanna Private Game Reserve. Transfers can be arranged in air-conditioned, luxury vehicles with complimentary snacks and drinks. Guests can also fly direct to the Savanna Private Game Reserve from KMIA in 30 minutes.
