A classic Zimbabwean safari experience in the heart of Hwange

For intimate wildlife encounters, thrilling sightings and a genuine sense of exclusivity, Little Makalolo offers an unforgettable safari in one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated wilderness areas. Set within the remote Linkwasha-Makalolo region of Hwange National Park, the camp combines traditional safari charm with exceptional access to wildlife and vast, beautiful landscapes.

Little Makalolo Moments

Perfectly positioned for an authentic Hwange adventure, Little Makalolo is as much about warm hospitality as it is about wildlife. The friendly team creates a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, allowing guests to settle into the rhythm of the bush from the moment they arrive.

Spend a lazy afternoon beside the pool or watch animals gather at the nearby waterhole from the elevated deck. Wooden walkways connect the tented suites to the main camp, where an inviting fire provides the perfect setting for evening drinks, stories and conversations beneath a sky filled with stars.

The raised pool deck is another favourite spot for enjoying a refreshing swim or sundowner while keeping watch for wildlife at the pan. Despite its remote location, the camp maintains a minimal environmental footprint, with solar power supplying its electricity.

Accommodation

With only six tented suites, including a family unit, Little Makalolo retains the intimate atmosphere of a traditional bush camp.

Each suite offers a comfortable retreat surrounded by nature, with outdoor showers providing a refreshing way to cool off after a day of safari adventures. Afterwards, gather in the dining area for a drink beside the fire and share highlights from the day.

Cuisine

Dining at Little Makalolo is relaxed, creative and deeply connected to the safari experience.  Enjoy a classic G&T stop in the wilderness, lantern-lit dinners beside camp or breakfast jaffles and traditional nhopi porridge around the fire.

For something truly memorable, dine in the bush hide while elephants forage nearby, or savour a leisurely brunch on the pool deck overlooking the wildlife-filled pan.

Discover Hidden Hwange

Covering approximately 14,651 km², Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest national park and is roughly half the size of Belgium.

The Linkwasha-Makalolo Private Wilderness Area in the park’s southeastern corner encompasses a remarkable mix of teak woodland, golden savannah and Kalahari sands. During summer, the Ngamo Plains become especially rich in grazing wildlife, attracting large numbers of plains game and the predators that follow.
