Woodbury Tented Camp
A secluded safari retreat nestled among indigenous bushveld
Overlooking the timeless floodplains of the Bushman’s River, hidden within the spectacular Amakhala Game Reserve, Woodbury Tented Camp delivers an authentic and intimate African safari experience surrounded by untouched wilderness and breathtaking scenery.
Established in 2002 by the Gush family partnership, the camp was thoughtfully created on a wooded hillside west of Woodbury Lodge. Inspired by the nostalgic charm of historic family bush camps once enjoyed in the region, the camp’s layout embraces nature with winding pathways weaving through indigenous vegetation and a central firepit tucked into a peaceful clearing beneath the stars.
Accommodation: Safari Tents
Today, Woodbury Tented Camp features ten beautifully appointed safari tents elevated on wooden decks, including two spacious family units.
Designed to blend comfort with rustic elegance, each tent offers king-size or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms, and all the modern conveniences needed for a luxurious stay in the bush. The handcrafted deck railings, created from reclaimed sneezewood fence posts once used on the family farms, symbolise a meaningful return of the land to its natural state after generations of agricultural use.
Viewing Deck
At the heart of the camp lies the inviting thatch-and-canvas communal lodge area, opening onto a viewing deck with sweeping panoramas across the magnificent Woodbury plains. The nearby waterhole attracts a remarkable variety of wildlife, including elephant, rhino, and lion, offering unforgettable sightings directly from the comfort of the camp.
Activites & Experience
Guests can join experienced and passionate field guides on twice-daily safari drives in search of the Big Five and the incredible diversity of wildlife that inhabits the reserve.
Between game activities, relax beside the swimming pool under the African sun or enjoy exceptional cuisine shared with fellow travellers. Evenings are best spent around the traditional boma fire, exchanging stories beneath a sky filled with stars — the essence of an unforgettable safari experience.
