Wilderness Serra Cafema reopens on 1 December 2026
Wilderness Serra Cafema – Where the Desert Meets the River
Following a temporary closure after a fire earlier this year, Wilderness Serra Cafema is set to reopen on 1 December 2026, welcoming guests back to one of Namibia’s most remote and extraordinary wilderness destinations.
The restoration has been thoughtfully designed to retain the camp’s distinctive character and deep connection to its surroundings, while introducing beautifully renewed guest areas, an updated main space and new wellness facilities. The result is a refreshed experience that remains true to Serra Cafema’s intimate and secluded spirit.

Where the Desert Meets the Kunene
In Namibia’s remote north-west, the Kunene River winds through an immense wilderness of dramatic contrasts. Lush riverbanks meet rolling desert dunes, while ancient rock formations rise from one of Southern Africa’s most untouched landscapes.
Serra Cafema lies within the Marienfluss Conservancy, a vast 300,000-hectare wilderness stretching from the Hartmann’s Mountains to the Kunene River. The conservancy is primarily owned by the Himba community, whose connection to this remarkable landscape has endured for generations.

An Oasis in the Wilderness
Few places feel as wonderfully unexpected as Serra Cafema. Here, a life-giving river flows through an otherwise arid desert, trees emerge from the dunes and Nile crocodiles inhabit waters surrounded by Namibia’s stark, dry landscapes.
The Kunene River is the lifeline of this extraordinary environment, sustaining wildlife, shaping the landscape and remaining deeply woven into the traditions and semi-nomadic way of life of the Himba people.
With its dramatic setting, profound sense of isolation and renewed facilities, Wilderness Serra Cafema offers an exceptional opportunity to experience Namibia at its most remote and untouched.
