Hidden on a private island in the mighty Zambezi River, upstream from the iconic Victoria Falls, Sekoma Island Lodge offers an exclusive retreat in the eastern Caprivi. Accessible in many areas only by traditional dugout canoe, the lodge ensures complete seclusion and direct access to one of Africa’s most celebrated freshwater fishing destinations.

Situated at the meeting point of Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe — where two great rivers converge — Sekoma delivers a rare combination of breathtaking scenery, rich wildlife, and outstanding angling opportunities. Alongside its sister property, Ilombe Island Lodge, guests enjoy a truly unique island experience in the heart of the Upper Zambezi.



Tiger Fishing Excellence

The Upper Zambezi is renowned as one of Africa’s finest Tigerfish waters. With more than 70 fish species, the river offers thrilling encounters with hard-fighting Tigerfish, as well as rewarding catches of Nembwe, bream, tilapia, African pike, and catfish.

Expert guides lead guests to the river’s most productive fishing grounds, ensuring memorable outings for both seasoned anglers and newcomers. Sekoma operates eight boats, each powered by 55hp motors, comfortably accommodating two fly fishermen or up to four lure anglers.



Fishing Seasons

Fly Fishing (June – Early September): Clear winter waters create prime conditions for sight fishing and targeting Tigerfish on the fly.

Lure Fishing (June – December): Artificial lures deliver explosive strikes from aggressive Tigerfish.

Drift & Live Bait (Oct – Nov & Mar – May): Peak periods for hooking the river’s largest Tigerfish.

Rapids Fishing (July – Sept): Adventurous anglers can tackle untouched rapids by inflatable boat.

Note: Zambia’s annual fishing ban runs from December through February.

Guests are welcome to bring their own gear, though conventional rods and reels are available for hire.
