Game Drives

The HillsNek Safaris Game Lodge is in the beautiful, malaria free Amakhala Game Reserve, which borders both the Addo Elephant Park and the Shamwari Game Reserve making this area rich in wildlife.

Guests staying at the HillsNek Lodge enjoy thrilling game drives in open game viewing vehicles which are lead by experienced guides.

Adventurous night drives are also available where guests have the opportunity to observe the nocturnal animals which call the Amakhala Game Reserve home.  While on game drives, visitors can spot lion, cheetah, giraffe, elephant and many other magnificent African wildlife, including Africa's 'Big Five.'

Walking Safaris

For guests who want a unique, and active safari experience, the HillsNek Safari Lodge in South Africa's Eastern Cape offers memorable walking safaris.

Guests get to explore the wilderness on foot while being taught to track by an experienced guide.  The walking safaris occur in areas of the Amakhala Game Reserve, which are free from dangerous animals. On the bush walk, visitors get to view game such as zebra, giraffe and a variety of buck as well as smaller wildlife and birds.

Star Gazing

    The Amakhala Game Reserve is known for its scenically beautiful landscape and is features five of South Africa’s seven biomes.  Amakhala is home to a great variety of animal species including the 'Big 5' and over 255 bird species.

To accommodate for children’s early bed times, Amakhala's HillsNek Safaris Lodge offers earlier dinner times for children while providing a delicious kiddies meals.

    The children’s safari bags are very popular amongst the smaller guests and are excellent for during the interactive game drives. HillsNek prides itself on not having television or internet facilities as there is absolutely no need for it when staying there. Children are encouraged to explore nature and observe the unique African wildlife.

The HillsNek Safaris Lodge in the Eastern Cape of South Africa offers complete exclusiveness and privacy with only three tented suites available at the lodge. The suites are separate from the main lodge but can be assessed via walkways making traveling between the two areas comfortable for guests.
 
The safari tents at HillsNek in the Amakhala Game Reserve offer wrap-around decks so guests can take in the beautiful nature from every angle of the rooms. The safari tents are made from thick canvas and provide a truly spectacular safari experience while still benefiting from the added luxuries.

Directions

Directions to HillsNek Safaris from Port Elizabeth:

1. Travel on the N2 towards Grahamstown
2. Go past the Shamwari turnoff on your left and continue straight for approximately 10km
3. Continue over a bridge where you travel about 200m until you see a big sign that reads Woodbury Lodge
4. Take the right exit under a thatched roof and continue to the Woodbury gate
5. You will approach a large gate where you will need to press the white button to enter.
6. Keep on the unpaved road until you come to a split where you will continue right following the signage that reads HillsNek and Conservation Centre
7. As you approach the Conservation Centre, you will see a sign that reads HillsNek Parking
8. Your ranger will be there to welcome you.
