Activities, Sports & Leisure

Mountain biking

The lodge provides a fleet of mountain bikes, or you could bring your own, which are ideal for exploring this region of South Africa within the lodge's conservancy.

A great destination to reach with the mountain bike is the False Bay Park, which is a 2300 hectare reserve which borders the western shoreline of Lake St Lucia; it forms part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

The family rides on the False Bay Lake trail offer scenic views across the St Lucia Lake and Hell’s Gate and are about 20 kilometres in distance stretching over flat terrain).

Walking

The walking trails which meandering through the unique sand forests have their roots firmly planted on ancient sand dunes are beautiful.  These scenic walks are diverse and the Hluhluwe River Lodge offers a relaxed, self-guided walk along the well-marked Red Duiker Trail. Walks to the shores of the magnificent Lake St Lucia and a fascinating guided walk through the unique sand forests of False Bay Park are also available.

These trails are suitable for the whole family and provide visitors with the opportunity to discover the region's outstanding diversity in fauna and flora.

Relaxing

The lounge deck at the Hluhluwe River Lodge is a welcoming place where guests may put up their feet to enjoy the view of the lake from a comfortable chair.

Bird watching

From the Hluhluwe River Lodge, guests have direct access to various habitat types including: floodplain, riverine, dense woodland, estuarine and sand forest.  The variety of habitats at Hluhluwe allows for an incredible diversity of bird species making this game reserve one of the best birding locations in South Africa.
