Dining at the Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps

Dinner at both Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps is served either in the main dining area or in the boma under the clear African sky. The menus of the delicious bush cuisine served at the Mantobeni Camp, and the Khoka Moya Camp change daily also depending on the season.

The delicious lunches may include aubergine, sweet pepper and olive rolls with fresh tomato sauce as well as salmon cakes with hot and sour noodles followed by a fresh fruit salad with mint syrup.

Memorable dinners at the Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps may include gourmet dishes such as grilled halloumi, marinated artichoke, roasted pepper and tomato salad with chive vinaigrette followed by braised lamb shank with mint and lemon couscous and raita. A sweet treat rounds off the wonderful dining experience at the Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps which might be a delicious cheesecake with mixed berry coulis.

Activities, Sports & Leisure

Game drives

After an early tea, coffee or fruit juice in the tent, guests embark on the morning safari in an open safari vehicle with an experienced tracker and guide.  The 3-hour safari takes guests through parts of the huge Manyeleti concession.  During the game drive, guests take a break from which refreshments such as tea or coffee and other beverages can be enjoyed.

 

After a delicious lunch, guests staying at the Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps participate in the afternoon game drive.  It is recommended to take warm clothing as the afternoon game drives continue into the night enabling guests to experience the sounds of the evening and affording a view of the nocturnal animals.

 

During the evening safaris, the Rangers also stop at a suitable location where sundowners with a full bar and light refreshments are served.

Family Safaris

The Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp accommodates children of all ages. Parents who wish to enjoy a private luxury camp in the greater Kruger National Park can bring their children along. Children are welcome to join the game drives with their parents.

The children’s program includes exciting activities, which are supervised by the camp staff.  Younger children may enjoy activities including colouring-in, bead-making and cookie-baking in the kitchen.
 
For older children, treasure hunts or short guided walks around the circumference of the camps are planned which introduces them to the small wonders of the bush. Primary sporting facilities for soccer and cricket are also available. The main activities focus on nature and outdoors, however, in the event of cold weather, the children′s room features a small library and a collection of DVDs.
 

Walking safaris

After breakfast, guests staying at one of the Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps are invited to enjoy a short walking safari where the small wonders of the bush can be explored with an emphasis on the abundant bird life, insects and plants which are indigenous to this region of South Africa.

Due to safety precautions, kids under the age of 16 years cannot participate on these walking safaris outside the camp perimeters. However, several alternative activities including a guided walk within the boundaries of the camps are available for children to enjoy.

Swimming

The swimming pool at the Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps offers a perfect place for relaxation in the warm African sun.

Children Policy
  • The Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps offer alternative meals for children, including pasta, hamburgers, fish fingers, hot dogs as well as ice-cream. The rate for children under the age of 12 years is 50% of the adult rate which is for one child sharing a tent with the adult. There is no charge for children under the age of 2 years.

    Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp

    The Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp welcomes children of all ages. The spacious luxury tents measure approximately 60 square meters and can comfortably accommodate a family consisting of four.

    Honeyguide Mantobeni Camp

    The Honeyguide Mantobeni Camp can accommodate children over the age of 12 years in its 12 Nehru-styled tents which lie in a Tamboti grove overlooking a dry river bed.

The 12 Nehru-styled tents at Mantobeni lie in a Tamboti grove overlooking a dry river bed. The tents at the Honeyguide Mantobeni Camp are comfortably furnished featuring king-sized beds and inviting leather couches. Each tent at Mantobeni offers its own bathroom with concrete bath, separate toilet and double shower. The Honeyguide Mantobeni Camp welcomes children over the age of 12 years.

Khoka Moya

The Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp features 12 large tents which offer a contemporary yet comfortable style. Each tent at the Khoka Moya Camp is en-suite with a king sized bed, a double shower as well as a separate toilet. The private outdoor seating lounge in front of each tent welcomes guests at Honeyguide to relax and take in unique sights and sounds of the surrounding untamed African bush. 
 
Honeyguide Khoka Moya welcomes children of all ages. The spacious luxury tents at Khoka Moya measure about 60 square meters and can comfortably accommodate a family of four.

Directions

Bordering the famous Kruger National Park and located between the Timbavati and the Sabi Sand Reserves lies the 23 000 hectare Manyeleti Game Reserve.

Manyeleti Game Reserve gate times (subject to change):

November to March: Opens 05h30 and closes 18h30
April to June: Opens 06h30 and closes 17h30
July to October: Opens 06h30 and closes 18h00.

The Honeyguide Tented Safari Camp can easily be accessed by a good tar road from Johannesburg and Pretoria; the drive takes approximately 6 hours.

From Johannesburg, continue on the N12 East in the direction of Witbank.
From Pretoria, continue on the N4 East in the direction of Witbank.

Directions from Johannesburg or Pretoria:

Continue past Witbank towards Belfast
Exit the N4 at the Belfast intersection, enter the town and turn right at the second stop sign in the direction of Dullstroom (R540)
Pass through Dullstroom towards Mashishing (Lydenburg)
At Mashishing the R540 becomes the R36
Continue on the R36 for 52km towards Orighstad
Pass through Orighstad on the R36 and continue towards the Abel Erasmus Pass
Shortly after crossing the Blyde River, turn right in the direction of Orpen/Swadini (R531)
Approximately 10km further, do not take the right turn to Swadini but continue straight in the direction of Klaserie. Ignore the turnoff to Hoedspruit.
Continue past Klaserie, and turn left at the Orpen signpost and continue until you see the Manyeleti Reserve sign (approximately 36km)
Pass the South African Wildlife College on your left and just further on you will see the Honeyguide Tented Safari Camp sign, turn right to enter the reserve.
Proceed on for 200m to the Manyeleti entrance gate where a nominal entrance fee is payable.
If you miss the turnoff to the Manyeleti reserve, you will arrive at the Orpen Gate of the Kruger National Park some 4km�s further. You will need to turn around and find the Manyeleti reserve entrance on the left-hand side as you head back.

Once in the reserve, follow the Honeyguide Tented Safari Camp signs to the camp, approximately 5km down a sand road.
You will arrive at Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp.
Guests staying at Honeyguide Mantobeni Camp will park their vehicles at Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp, and then be taken to Honeyguide Mantobeni Camp by game viewing vehicles.
Should your arrival be later than 16h00 or should you require assistance, please contact the camp.

South African Airlines offers the following flights:

O R Tambo International Johannesburg to Hoedspruit Airport
O R Tambo International Johannesburg to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA)
O R Tambo International Johannesburg to Phalaborwa Airport
Cape Town to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA).

It is recommended to fly directly from O R Tambo International Johannesburg to Hoedspruit. There are two daily flights to Hoedspruit Airport. Transfers from Hoedspruit Airport to the Lodge are available upon request and takes approximately 40 minutes.
Road transfers between the various airports and the Honeyguide Tented Safari Camp can also be booked.
Additionally, scheduled and private charter flights can also be arranged to and from Honeyguide Tented Safari Camp, the reserve features its own private airstrip.
