Safari Drives

Early morning game drives as well as late afternoon/evening game drives are available to guests staying at the Imbali Safari Lodge in the Kruger National Park.

The knowledgeable game rangers of the Imbali Safari Lodge share their knowledge about the wildlife and flora of this region with their guests. Close encounters with untamed animals such as elephants, buffalo, rhinos, and leopards make for an unforgettable experience. Guests also have the opportunity to self-drive through the Kruger National Park in their vehicle or rental car.

Bird watching

This area of the country is home to a wide variety of magnificent bird life making it an excellent getaway destination for bird watching enthusiasts.

Bush walks

Guided safari walks through the African bushveld offer guests staying at the Imbali Safari Lodge the opportunity to get familiar with the smaller animals such as the "Little Five" and the unique vegetation found here.

Malaria Status and Animals
  • The Imbali lodge is in a malaria area, and a doctor should be consulted before travelling.

    The vast and game rich Kruger National Park of South Africa is home to estimated 1500 lions, 12010 elephants, 2510 buffaloes, 1010 leopards and 5010 white and black rhinos. 

    Lions live throughout the Kruger National Park but are usually in the grasslands, where their favourite prey of Zebra and Wildebeest graze the fields.  The “Talamati Lion Pride” frequently visits the waterhole which is adjacent to the lodge. 

    The Leopard is a shy animal which hunts at night. Imbali is in an area of high leopard density where sightings are frequent.

Children Policy
  • Children are welcome at the Imbali Safari Lodge in the Kruger National Park.  A maximum of two children under the age of 12 may share with parents.  Children of 5 years and younger are accommodated on a complimentary basis when sharing with parents.

    The minimum age to participate on game drives is six years and is subject to the discretion of the Directorate.

    The exciting children activities at the Imbali Safari Lodge in the Kruger National Park are available at no additional charge to every child under the age of 8 years staying a minimum of 2 nights.

    Children have the opportunity to learn about the birds which are home in this region of South Africa, identifying them by sight and sound and how to use them to your advantage

    6. Night in the Bush

    Learning the sounds and calls of the nightlife in the bush, what animals are nocturnal and why they come out at night. Interesting facts about the stars and how to use them to navigate your way home.

    7. Reducing your Carbon Footprint

    Learning interesting facts on how you can reduce your carbon footprint to reduce global warming.

    At the end of this Bush Crash Course children will write a small test and after completing they will get a certificate of excellence.

Accommodating 26 guests in 13 luxurious suites.  Each chalet has a private Jacuzzi or plunge pool offering spacious areas of glass and magnificent wooden decks for a comfortable game viewing experience. The decks provide scenic views from the river bed and the savannah plains which lie beyond.

The chalets offer king-size or twin beds with only the finest furniture and comfortable linen, en-suite bathrooms with antique baths as well as air conditioning. Some of the chalets at the Imbali Safari Lodge overlook the Nwatswitsonto riverbed and surrounding savannah while others enjoy a view of the waterhole on the adjacent bank.

Directions

Access to the Imbali Lodge by Air:

- SA Express from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Hoedspruit
- SA Airlink from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Livingstone (Zambia) and Durban to Nelspruit KMIA (Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport)
- Federal Air and Bataleur air service daily to the Manyeleti airstrip (8km)
- Private Charters available to private airstrip, lodge will do transfer

Access to the Imbali Lodge by Road:

- After departing from Johannesburg International Airport
- Take the R21 highway towards Pretoria (North)
- Before Pretoria, take the N4 Highway East
- Turn off at Belfast, takes the R540 towards Dullstroom (approximately 37km)
- At Dullstroom, take the R540 towards Lydenburg (approximately 43km)
- At Lydenburg, take the R36 towards Ohrigstad (approximately 62km)
- At Ohrigstad, take the R527 towards Hoedspruit (Note: You will pass through the JG Strijdom Tunnel)
- 16km before Hoedspruit at the Swadini Reptile Centre, turn right onto the R531 towards Klaserie
- After approximately 30km, turn left onto the Orpen Gate Road (R531)
- After 40km, you will reach the Orpen Gate of the Kruger National Park

ORPEN GATE ENTRY: (Estimated Driving Time: 2 hours)

- After entering the Orpen Gate travel for 22km on the H7.
- Turn right on the S36 where you will see the signpost marked Imbali, Hamiltons, Hoyo-Hoyo with the exact distances.
- After about 21km make a right on the S145 where it is signposted for Imbali and Hoyo-Hoyo after 3km turn left at the no entry sign.
- Drive for 3.5km where you will reach a T-junction.
- Turn right to Hoyo-Hoyo or left to Imbali.

PAUL KRUGER GATE ENTRY:

- Enter Paul Kruger Gate
- Proceed toward Skukuza
- From Skukuza take the H1-2 towards Satara (32km)
- Turn left S36(Dirt Road) signs will read Imbali Safari Lodge/Hoyo-Hoyo Tsonga Lodge/Hamiltons Tented Camp
- Continue S36 for 40km
- At T-junction turn left onto S125 for 1km then right S36
- Continue for 6km
- Turn left S145 for 3km
- At signage for Imbali Safari Lodge and Hoyo-Hoyo Tsonga Lodge turn left
- Travel approx 4km to T-Junction turn right for Hoyo-Hoyo (4km)

GATE ENTRANCE TIMES

Please be aware of gate entrance times into the Kruger National Park of South Africa as they do vary throughout the year, depending on the season. Entrance to the Kruger National Park via the Orpen Gate should be no later than two hours before gate closure time and via Kruger Gate should be no later than three hours before gate closure times.
