Guests may experience the best of fine dining at the lodge restaurant.  Weather permitting, great dinners are served around the fire-lit boma in a traditional style setting with the bright, star-studded sky above.

Swimming

The swimming pool at the Kapama Karula Lodge is surrounded by a wooden deck which offers guests the perfect location from where to enjoy the warm afternoon sunshine in between game viewing activities.

Game Viewing

Twice a day, guests have the opportunity to embark on thrilling safaris which are guided through the 'Big Five' Kapama Private Game Reserve.  Home to lions, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes as well as many other animals, travellers also enjoy magnificent bird watching opportunities.

Children Policy
  • All children cal stay at the Kapama Karula Lodge.  Kids under the age of sixteen years are to be accompanied by a responsible adult during the game drives as well as the bush walks. Children can go on the game drives and bush walk at the sole discretion of the ranger.  Accommodation for families travelling with the kids is provided in the two Family Superior Suites which offer a second bedroom to accommodate two children.

The Superior suites are exquisitely decorated offering generous, private space in a most exclusive setting.  Measuring 130 square meters each, the Superior Suites at Kapama Karula are complete with opulent en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, his and hers basins as well as a bath tub.

Surrounded by magnificent glass sliding doors, which allow for uninterrupted views over the Klaserie River, each of the Superior Suites also offers its outside deck where a full-size heated swimming pool, as well as sun loungers for relaxation.

Family Villa

Two of Karula's Superior Suites, each of which measures 170 square meters, are ideal for families travelling with children.  These family suites provide an open-plan living room which leads into the master bedroom with its en-suite bathroom.  The  Family Suite's second bedroom also leads off the living room and is accessible through an interleading door as well as a private entrance.

Directions

Directions to Johannesburg to the Kapama Karula Lodge:

Take either the N12 or the N4 from Johannesburg to eMalahleni and Middelburg.
Turn onto the R540 towards eMakhazeni, Emnotweni and Mashishing. Emnotweni is set on the Highveld, and is an ideal point for exploring the region.
The village has a quaint atmosphere and is famous for its trout fishing, and is a good halfway or lunch stop on the way to Kapama Private Game Reserve.
From Mashishing, proceed on the R36 to Ohrigstad, and through the Strydom Tunnel to Hoedspruit.
This scenic drive through Mpumalanga takes in magnificent mountain landscapes and panoramic views - as you drive up the mountain passes onto the high escarpment, you will have sweeping vistas of the Lowveld down below. At the Strydom Tunnel, roadside stalls sell ethnic curios from the area.
From Hoedspruit, take the R40 to Klaserie and continue until you reach the Kapama Private Game Reserve entrance on the left.
