Game Drives or Walking Safaris

Guests staying at the luxury Pondoro Game Lodge can take part in their unforgettable game drives and walking safaris. 

The game drive safaris take place in the morning or evening. Guests can be driven around in open safari vehicles while looking for some of Africa's most beautiful wildlife.

The Pondoro Safari Lodge in the Balule Private Nature Reserve, South Africa, also offers walking safaris where guests and their specially trained guide head off and experience the African bush by foot.

Excursions

Excursions are recommended for guests spending longer than two days at the Pondoro Game Lodge.

Day trips:

• Panorama tour - visit the Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Three Rondavels and the Pinnacle.
• Moholoholo Centre - Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre provides a home for many of South Africa’s abandoned, injured and poisoned wildlife.
• Cheetah Breeding Project - open safari vehicles
• The Elephant Sanctuary - guests, can learn about elephant habits, behavior, personalities and anatomy. Visitors get an opportunity to touch, feed and even walk trunk-in-hand with these magnificent animals.
• Elephant Back Safaris - this trip includes an introduction and orientation into the personalities of the elephants and then can view treetops, birds’ nests and giraffe almost face to face.
• Jessica The Hippo - Jessica is a ten-year-old female Hippopotamus. Guests can feed, touch and play with Jessica the Hippo.
• Echo Caves - the cave consists of impressive stalactites and stalagmite formations. The inside of these natural caverns make for interesting viewing.
• Boat Cruise on Blyde Dam - the third largest Canyon in the world.
• Shangana Cultural Village - Shangana invites guests to share their way of life, history, customs, initiation ceremonies, the practice of polygamy, outfits and weapons of macho(warriors), their homes, beadwork, clothing and the preparation of food. The Sangoma explains different multis (medicines) and may throw his bones on request Shangaan dancing.
• Khamai Reptile Park - a curator, will guide guests through the facility and give you an intimate, hands-on experience with the animals. Visitors can feed, touch and photograph some of the most exotic reptiles.
• Bombyx Mori Silk Farm - take a journey through silk’s fascinating history and learn how the silk-worms are organically farmed and how the silk cocoons are processed into excellent products.
