Malaria Status and Animals
The Madikwe Reserve in South Africa's North West Province is a malaria-free reserve which is home to Africa's "Big Five": lions, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes and leopards.
The 75,010 hectare Madikwe Reserve, which is in the North West Province of South Africa, was initially established in 1991 to restore and return the land to its former natural environment.
A unique partnership between the state of South Africa, local communities and private enterprise have transformed this area by way of the largest, phased translocation operation ever undertaken worldwide: the so-called "Operation Phoenix" has been an astounding success.

The seven chalets at the Rhulani Safari Lodge, Madikwe Game Reserve, are air-conditioned for warm summer evenings and feature a Morso fireplace for the chilly winter nights. Rhulani's spacious chalets are fully equipped with coffee and tea stations and a fully stocked bar fridge. The en-suite bathrooms offer an oval bath, twin basins as well as both in and outdoor showers.

The two bedroom luxury family suite at the Rhulani Safari Lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa, features 2 en-suite bedrooms, with outdoor showers. The rooms lead onto the private deck with a plunge pool.

Directions
The drive time to the five star Rhulani Safari Lodge from Johannesburg and Pretoria is about three and a half hours.
1.) The most direct route to the Lodge is as follows:
- Take Lanseria Road, past Lanseria to T-junction
- Turn left on R512 to Magaliesburg
- 9.7km later turn right on R512 to Brits
- Cross the railway line and the new bridge over the Hartbeespoort Dam (approx. 3km)
- 2km then you reach another T-junction. Turn right on R512 towards Brits
- 4.2km then a 4-way stop (Engen Garage) turn left on R512/R27 towards Brits and Rustenburg
- Turn right on Brits road at the N4 sign
- Turn left onto the N4 highway towards Zeerust (might also say Rustenburg or Swartruggens)
- From Swartruggens, follow the N4 Toll Road to Zeerust
- Once in Zeerust, turn right at Gabarone/Madikwe signs on route R49
- Enter Madikwe Game Reserve at the Wonderboom Gate, 97km north of Zeerust
- Pass the Abjaterskop Gate (first entrance to Madikwe), 7km before the Wonderboom Gate
2. ) The alternative route from Johannesburg is via Krugersdorp, Magaliesburg, Derby and Koster, Swartruggens and Zeerust:
- From Johannesburg, head north-west on R24 to Magaliesburg
- Once in Magaliesburg, follow route 509 to Derby, Koster and Swartruggens
- From Swartruggens, follow the N4 Toll Road to Zeerust
- Once in Zeerust, turn right at Gabarone/Madikwe signs on route R49
- Enter Madikwe Game Reserve at the Wonderboom Gate, 97km north of Zeerust
- Pass the Abjaterskop Gate (first entrance to Madikwe), 7km before the Wonderboom Gate
3.) Air Transfers
Air transfers are available on a daily basis from the OR Tambo Johannesburg International Airport to and from the Madikwe Game Reserve. The Luggage is limited to 20kg per person in soft bags. Flight options are available via Sun City.
