Dining at the Arathusa Safari Lodge

Dining at the magnificent Arathusa Safari Lodge is a wonderful social experience.  The chef focuses on only the freshest and finest local ingredients that the Cape has to offer.  Simple yet sumptuous meals are put together to tantalize the diners taste buds.

Breakfast is a buffet style continental breakfast, although cooked meals are available upon request.  Lunch is a plated meal served to the guests according to the produce available to the chef on that day.  Dinner at the Arathusa Safari Lodge is a 3-course affair on the deck overlooking the waterhole around a blazing fire (weather permitting).

Game Drives and Walking Safaris

The Arathusa Safari Lodge prides itself on leopard viewing. The regular appearances of leopard in this area of South Africa allow the rangers to track their movements and the same leopards are often seen around the camp.

Buffalo, elephants, lions, giraffe, zebra, warthog and impalas can also be seen in their numbers. Game drives are conducted in open safari vehicles while guided walks with an armed ranger may also be arranged.

Spa treatments

The exclusive Arathusa Safari Lodge in Sabi Sands features two spa treatment rooms which overlook the waterhole. This Safari Spa makes use of TheraVine products, a treatment range developed in the Stellenbosch Winelands.

  • The Arathusa Safari Lodge prides itself on leopard viewing. The Arathusa Safari Lodge prides itself on Leopard viewing.  It is one of the few Safari Lodges in South Africa that has regular sittings of Leopard.  Apart from the Leopard population, guests can see the rest of the Big 5 as well as over 400 different species of bird and wildlife.

    Some guests do not take malaria medication when visiting the area, but for safety reasons, it is recommended. There are few cases of malaria, however just to be safe consult your doctor before travelling to the area.

Four new water-facing Luxury Rooms have been added to the main lodge area, replacing four of the Standard Rooms. Together with the existing five Standard Rooms, there are nine rooms available within the main lodge perimeter.  

The four remote bush-facing Luxury Rooms are ideal for guests who prefer a more exclusive and private experience. The only difference between the two Luxury Room types is that water-facing rooms do not have private plunge pools, whereas bush-facing Luxury Rooms do.  Both are charged at the same rate.

The rooms are decorated in natural, earthy colours with only natural fabrics and textiles. The luxury rooms are more private than the standard rooms and have their private plunge pool and a lounge area.

Directions

From Johannesburg, follow the N12 to Emalahleni (Witbank) then take the N4 to Nelspruit.
-You will go through 2 national toll gates on this road - The cost of these are roughly R40 and R60 respectively.
-Take the R40 from Nelspruit to White River and proceed to Hazyview.
-Remain on the R40 towards Bushbuckridge (from Hazyview it is approximately 63 km / 1 hour until Acornhoek turn)
- Make a right at the traffic lights (Acornhoek) - to Manyeleti / Hulamahashe / Hluvukani
- Continue the tar road for approximately 34.1 km. Turn right onto dirt road.
-Follow the dirt road for 6.4 km until Uthar Clinic is on left.
-Turn left on gravel road (Utha Store will be on the right) - 7.3 km to the Gowrie Gate.
-Travel straight through the Gowrie Gate. At signboards continue straight to Arathusa Safari
-Turn right at the sign for Arathusa Safari Lodge
- Follow the road and the entrance to the lodge is on the right.
