Activities, Sports & Leisure

Wildlife activities

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge offers Bush Safaris to guests as well as to the public. Safaris on open game viewing vehicles give guests the chance to see a wide variety of animals including hippos, elephants, giraffes, eland, zebra, buffalo, rhino and springbok.

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge also offers some of the best and most interactive elephant experiences in the Garden Route. Guests can enjoy elephant feeding, elephant walks and elephant riding. The three African elephants found here are orphans from the Kruger National Park, and their parents were lost in poaching incidents.

Visitors to Buffelsdrift Game Lodge have the opportunity to become part of the natural environment while viewing the game on horseback. The horseback safaris are led by trained guides.

Meerkat Safari

The Meerkat Safaris at the Buffelsdrift Game Lodge provide a unique way of experience wildlife to travellers.  Early morning, guests are welcomed in the Lodge Lookout Lounge with a warm cup of coffee while being briefed by the Meerkat Ranger on what to expect on the outing.

Then they are driven in the open game viewing vehicle to the Meerkat Burrows, where comfortable camping chairs are placed out for the guests to sit and enjoy the scenery. While they wait for the Meerkats to emerge from their burrows, the ranger shares his knowledge and passion for these creatures with them.

There is even a chance that they will spot other wildlife such as giraffes, hippos, buffalo and various other animals on their way or while relaxing on the chairs. This activity can last up to three hours, depending on the timing of the Meerkats.
