Dining at the Deception Valley Lodge

The spectacular boma area with the fireplace provides a stunning dining venue for guests during their stay at the Deception Valley Lodge in Botswana.  A dining room and a bar are also available for guests.

Game drives

Guests may participate in exciting day and night game drives through the Kalahari of Botswana on which Africa's untamed big game can be observed from the comfort of an open 4x4 safari vehicle.

Night game drives provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the nightlife in the bushveld and its nocturnal species by the spotlight. During the day game drives, guests may enjoy the spectacular views, the magnificent wildlife, and the plant life.

Guided walks

Guided and informative game walks can be enjoyed from the Deception Valley Lodge where guests are shows how animals and plants thrive in this arid environment of Botswana, Southern Africa.

Bird watching

Bird watching is fantastic for avid enthusiasts at the Deception Valley Lodge.  Over 200 bird species have been identified in this particular region of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana.

Walks with the San Bushmen

A unique experience during a stay at Botswana's Deception Valley Lodge is a walk with the local San Bushmen whereby guests get introduced to crucial survival skills in the harsh wilderness of the Kalahari, the hunting as well as their culture.


The outdoor swimming pool at the Deception Valley Lodge of the North Eastern Boarder of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana, invites guests for a refreshing and relaxing swim in the warm afternoon sun.  Swimming towels are provided at the pool.

Malaria Status and Animals
  • It is advisable to take anti-malaria tablets all year round.   It is recommended to check with a doctor for prophylaxis advice.  The Deception Valley Lodge provides Mosquito repellent sprays in Botswana, and long sleeves and pants should be worn in the evenings and early mornings.

    Wildlife in this region of Botswana includes the Kalahari Lion, Kudu, Cheetah, Giraffe, Leopard and the elusive Brown Hyena.  The Deception Valley Lodge overlooks a waterhole which is frequented by passing wildlife during the day and at night.

Children Policy
    • Children from 8 years of age and older are welcome to stay at the Deception Valley Lodge in Botswana.
    • Parents with children between 8 and 12 years old are required to book a private game vehicle.
    • Children between 8 and 12 years pay 50 % of the nightly per person rate.
    • Children should be under the care of a parent at all times as the Deception Valley Lodge is in a wildlife area.

The Deception Valley Lodge, which lies in the north-eastern border of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana, features eight private chalets.  Each chalet consists of a twin bedroom, a lounge as well as a Victorian-style bathroom which is completed with an outside shower.

Each chalet at the Deception Valley Lodge offers guests a deck from where excellent views of the Kalahari bush can be enjoyed in complete tranquillity. The Deception Valley Lodge with its unique chalets reflects an ethnic African theme.  It was constructed to fit into the surrounding bush

The magnificent Deception Valley Lodge nestles on the North Eastern Boarder of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana, Southern Africa.

The best access to the Deception Valley Lodge is by Charter flight (30 minutes from Maun), however self-drive is possible, though a 4x4 vehicle is essential.

Access to the Deception Valley Lodge in Botswana by Road:
Directions to the Deception Valley Lodge from Maun:
From Maun take the A3 (Maun to Nata Road) about 56km turn right to Makalamabedi (18km)
Just before the Makalamabedi Veterinary Gate turn right on a sand road, you will drive on the right side of the fence direction South (73km)
You will reach the Pfefodiafoka Corner Veterinary Gate (some people refer to this gate as the Kuke Corner) on your right
Sign the register and go through the gate
Stay left through the Pfefodiafoka Corner Veterinary Gate almost 24km, with the veterinary fence on you left side you will reach the entrance gate to Deception Valley lodge on your right
Deception Valley Lodge is about 3.5km past Haina Safari Lodge
Continue through the gate and follow the signs to the lodge for approximately 8km

Directions to the Deception Valley Lodge from Gobabis / Ghanzi:

From Gobabis take the tar road to Mamuno border post it is 110km from Gobabais to Mamuno
From Mamuno border post the first town you will drive through is Charleshill (here you can refuel)
Follow this road up to the T-junction which is the Lobatsi � Ghanzi Road (from Charleshill to the T-junction is approximately 160km)
At the T-junction turn to your left direction Ghanzi. (From the T-Junction to Ghanzi is approximately 40km) Make sure to refuel in Ghanzi
This road leads you through Ghanzi in the direction of Maun. - From Ghanzi to the Kuki Veterinary Gate is 110km
Travel through the gate and turn right directly after the gate on the NORTHERN SIDE of the fence
Follow this dirt road with the fence on your right-hand side for 140km to the Deception Valley Lodge sign on your left-hand side
From the Deception Valley Lodge gate it is about 8km to the lodge. Follow the arrows to the lodge.
